I am feeding out a 11 month old limousin steer to process for personel consumption. What suggestions do you have for amount to feed daily and what feed will put the most weight gain , produce the best meat ,etc.
 
How much longer are you going to feed him? At 11 months old, he should be ready to head to the slaughter house.
 
I was planning to get about 200 more pounds on him. He probably weighs about 600 lbs now which seems aliitle light for his age.

Seems terribly light for his age. He should have weighed at least that at weaning. Might want to figure out a way to actually weigh him so your not just shooting in the dark
 
You should have been worrying about the feed 5 months ago. Got 35 Limi steers and heifers from 5 to 8 months old that will range from 550 to 800 pounds.

Cant say that I blame you for wanting to put more weight on him. Have you had him since birth?
 
hadn't done anything different with any of her other calves. She has had probably 5 calves mostly bull calves. All have done well and not been as light as this one. I have sold the others at weaning.
 
personally, if it were my steer, i wouldn't worry about the age - since it is a tail-ender anyway and you say your going to eat it yourself, i'd work it up to full feed and keep feeding it until the calf was finished. don't worry about it's age or weight. the only thing your after is good beef - so if it takes a few extra dollars worth of feed to get it finished - that would be money better spent than butchering too soon and having a freezer full of less desireable beef. IMO.
