Does anyone grain feed their herd if grass is plentiful?
Not necessary if grass is plentiful, just a good mineral. But when the grass goes dormant or becomes mature, protein supplementation is usually necessary.

That's sure not the first time that question has been asked.
Most University studies have proven that with an added protien suppliment in the diet, it increases appetite which promotes more grazing, resulting in higher grazing intake and increased weight gain.
You can say that your stock dosen't need it, and that may be true for perminant stock. But if you are stocking for resale, faster weight gain means more money in your pocket.

No , if grass is short we feed hay or haylage , sometimes we feed a little grain to cows in winter , calves are always on a creep feeder.
