feedig out a beef

Help Support CattleToday:

roughage would be a % of the total ration and included in your total ration cost per ton
the more included in the ration the lower your ration cost per ton and also the lower the daily rate of gain
300 lbs in 90 days = 3.33 lbs gain per day
300 lbs in 100 days = 3 lbs per day
300 lbs in 120 days = 2.5 lbs per day

That's a tough gain to reach on plain English cattle.

I wouldn't put a Holstein steer into a feedlot that couldn't do 2.5 lbs of gain per day, let alone English cattle.

Thanks for the reply. I will be feeding out a 3/4 angus x 1/8 longhorn X1/8 beef master steer. I still have a little bit of longhorn influence from a steer that was not banded properly. Apparently a one nutter can do the job. This " steer " was young and bred a couple of my heifers before I caught on to his action. My dad wanted a longhorn as pasture art and I bought him one for Fathers Day. No good deed goes unpunished.
