depends
i weighed my calf today he weighed 650lbs i need him to weigh 1250 by july 10. what should i feed him to get him up there

Well to starte off what types of feed brands do you have in your area. Just find a good one and stay with it.If he still needs to grow keep him on a grower till you and other people think it's time to put him on a finisher. You can also Implant him which will help a lot. But Keep him cool and clean, its getting warm so keep fly's down and keep the fan's on. Wash him off twice a day. That should help you out a lot.

well basically you are trying to put on 600 pounds in 92 days which would mean you nead a ADG of 6.5 pounds a day.

i dont think that is going to happen a very low chance......the most i ever got my steer to get a day was like 3.8 to 4 and that was in cold weather... the hot days are coming so it is very unlikely that you will even get that

just push him as hard as you can........you could maybe try appetite express from sullivans but you are going to be lucky to make it to 1000 or 1050

good luck

Hit him with a double dose of Revalar S or G and then wait 45 days and do it again. He'll be eating so much you won't believe it.

hey moocow how ya been? havnt talked to ya in a while.

i dont know our exact rations but this is what we feed. we have cracked corn with protein in it. we give my 3 steers 2 full 5 gallon buckets a day. we figured up the weight of it but i cant remember. but they're growing good. very fat too.we dont give implants or nothing though. they weighed 837 and 768 at weigh in back in late feb. i figured up that they need to gain about 3 pounds a day. thats about half of what you need to. my recomendation would give them about as much corn as they can eat, good oat hay and whatever implants your talkin bout.

You feed your stter striaght corn and your going to burn him out not to mention over condition him by july. Feed a real show feed and implant him and you should get some pretty good gains.

Cowboy 2.0 is right. Straight corn is probably one of the worst things you can feed a steer that you want to show. We feed about 25% barley in our feed. We also feed protein and fat supplements. We use Sheen for protein, and PowerPhat for fat. We get the supplements through Showmaster feeds. You can feed up to 3lbs/day on each of those supplements. They suggest feeding the protein about 30 days in advance of the show, but if you don't feed the full 3 lbs, you can go ahead and start feeding it now. I would start at about 1 lb a day. I'm sure there are other products out there, but this is what works for us. We average about 3.5 lbs ADG on full feed. You have quite a challenge on your hands. Best of luck 8)

well other people that we've talked to about what they feed their show calves said corn works good. and it has been working good. our fair aint til august, if that makes a dif. so far they're growing good. and my littlest ones really starting to fill out nice. its my first year so ill just see how it goes. ive been wanting to post a few pic of them to see what yall think of them. so be lookin for some pics soon.

If you just wan'ting to get them fat get some FAST FAT from Moorman's or some Sweet80 form HighPro. But if your just starting out, I would go with a good show feed, till you really learn what you can do and can't do. Feedng to much corn we BURN one up, if you burn one up you just wasted money and time. Started them out on a Grower then when it time change them to a finisher. If they ARE NOT getting finished you my add some corn. Or you could cook corn, but the probelms I find with cooking corn is that the calves LOVE it and do not wan't to eat the feed, they just wan't cooked corn. GOOD LUCK

When used in addition to a good show feed.

Maineshowgirl, how much corn do you cook/head/day? I have heard that you can give them too much because it is digested easyer? I have been using a slow cooker on low for 6 hours and giving 1.5 gal(dry corn) twice a day to 2 head.

I agree with Richburg, I do not think you have a chance of reaching 1250 by July 10th. 6 1/2 pounds a day gain is not going to happen. I figure best we ever hope for is a little over 3 lbs a day gain especially them hot months that are coming.

1250 is an ideal weight but hopefully he will make your minimum weight if you have one? Here we have to be at least 1,000 lbs to make the sale. But you will need to gain almost 4 lbs a day to even do that.

Keep him cool and push him as hard as you can. Good Luck!
