Farm Update

Some of you might remember I took some "beef," no pun intended, on the quality of our cows a month or so ago. I case you were losing sleep over it, here is a update. We are headed in the direction of a pure bred reg. Angus herd. We purchased a reg. bull from the Ocala Bull sale about three weeks ago. I have some pics below but really can't see much, I will try to get more tomorrow. We have sold 10+ cows and heifers over the past two weeks setting that money aside to put towards buying reg. cows or heifers. We have been doing our homework and have found a couple of pure bred breeders that are fairly local. One of which I have spent apx. 8 hrs on the phone with, she has been wonderful and willing to help us get started. There has been some posting lately about the "newbies," well all I can say is we are doing our homework, trying to learn as much as possible, talking to people, reading publications, researching online, learning something new everyday. EPD's aren't written in french anymore, just spanish, so we understand more than we did last week, lol. Biggest thing is we have a goal and a direction that we are headed in and we are making progress. More cows and some steers to be sold in the spring and early summer with new cow and heifer purchases planned midsummer after preg testing is done. So for now sit back and enjoy a Coors Light, take a gander and have a laugh at the few pics that I have, son of a gun almost didn't fit in the trailer. And most of all take a step back because its family that really matters not who has the best cows.

The one picture, small though it is, shows a pretty good looking rear view. Try to get a side view taken at 3' (three feet) above the ground with him standing with his front feet slightly higher than his hind feet. Also a front view and rear view - all with the camera 3' above the ground. And try to get them in larger sizes in the post.

Well, it sounds like you got your priorities right! And you brought home a load of bull... :lol: He looks to be a big boy even tho the pictures are little. That whole picture thing is supposed to be easy but, well anyway when you find your image and click on it there are different sizes you can click on and the medium usually works better, but where this size thing is located confuses me too. Depends on if you are in the Cattle Today photo site, photo bucket or somewhere else. Hopefully someone will explain this better than what I just tried to do! :oops:

i will comend for doing the reserch.doing the reserch has tobe done so you can learn all you can about bloodlines an EPDS.then you must decide on the direction you want the herd to go.being do you want to sell bulls an replacement heifers.what you are willing to pay for the cows/bred heifers that your buying.do not get in a hurry buying the cows.only buy the cows that will fitt the program that your starting.

Did you ever consider using him on some PB Brahman cows to produce some F 1 Brangus heifers to sell as replacements? I saw a Brahman in some of your other pics that you posted. Just wondering if this might be a viable enterprise for you.

Thought has crossed my mind, I think that we are going to start with Angus first, continue to get rid of the cows we have and pick up more pure bred angus. It maybe a option down the road, gotta walk before I can run.
