Farm truck - check that engine compartment!

Was riding around in an old jeep, with a friend this weekend, checking cattle. Smelled a little something burning. Thought nothing of it. Got out to open a gate and when I turned back towards the jeep I saw flames behind the front engine cowling. We quickly poped the hood and saw that a rats nest was on fire up under the air cleaner housing!! All the rubber hoses/conduit and wiring was on fire. We quickly dug dirt and threw it on the fire, finally putting out the fire but the damge was done. Check those engine compartments every now and then if you haven't been driving that old farm truck in a while!!

Sorry the engine compartment caught on fire but it's not as bad as a bunch of cats getting thrown out from under the hood. I guess they crawled under there to get warm but they sure didn't count on me starting the engine up any time soon.

that happened to my dumptruck hired hand pulled up in it and I smelled something burning opened the hood and a pack rat had covered the motor luckily it was just smokin no flames so we got it all dug out

Have started leaving the hood up on the ones that are parked for awhile and they don't get in there

Had a whole family of mice living in one of my trucks a few years back, ate a whole pack of chewing gum and chewed up everything in sight. Got the bright idea of setting d-con under the seat, truck smelled like dead rats for months.
