Facist Italian Dagger

I was given a WWII Italian dagger this weekend. It was captured off of the Italian facist black shirt troops in North Africa in the early days of the war. I collect WWII stuff, mostly U.S. items but the guy that had it thought that I would like it. His father brought it back from the war. I didn't know much about it and neither did he. I did a bit of researching this weekend and found out that it is very valuable.......to the tune of $1,400 on some memorabilia websites. Anyway it is fairly rare with the MVSN stamp and logo on the scabbard. This means that it was issued to an elite facist unit. It has R.C. carved into the handle. My research shows that many units carved the units initials into the handle which makes it more valuable. I am sending pics to some experts at a memorabilia site to get a value estimate and a historical story on it. It was a nice gift :D

That's a great piece. An older friend of mine has a Luger he took off a colonel in Italy. He's in the nursing home now and I really would like to buy it from him cause his son is a POS and will probably sell it for a high. Its not that I really want it its just I'd hate to see such a rich piece of history be tarnished in such a way.

Nice knife. I have a German bayonet but it's nowhere near as nice or rare as that one.

When I was a kid the neighbor kids had a 7.7 Jap that we all played with. It wasn't that it was a rare rifle but their dad had been shot with that rifle. A very near miss. He took one through the nose from the side (he had a sort of deformed nose from that). He said that he caught a movement out of the corner of his eye and just pulled his head back in time to avoid a fatal shot. He got the other guy and ended up bringing the rifle home along with three purple hearts he got in the Philipines. I grew up surrounded by WWII combat veterans. He was the only one who would tell us stories. And he sure didn't glorify war stories at all.

It wasn't that the rifle was rare because it wasn't. But the story behind it made it very valuable.

That's the same with the luger. Mr. B took it off a colonel who commanded some fortified bunkers. German Colonel was like royalty and refused to give up his firearm to a lowly sergeant. I'm sure a half bottle of oxycoten would probably cinch the deal for his son. I hate to appear like a buzzard but I'm real tempted to talk to him about it. Its stuff like that that has a history along with it that makes things truly valuable.

I have a 7.7 Jap that my uncle brought back from Japan when he was with the occupation forces...I haven't shot it lately- but Dad and my Uncle shot several deer with it over the years...

Dad and my uncle also brought back numerous Japanese bayonets- and a Samurai Sword...One of the neatest items I have of my uncles is a Japanese flag that is signed by many of the guys that were in his unit- the 6th Army Rangers- the unit that led the raid on Cabanatuan in the Phillippines to rescue the US prisoners... I was told- but have been unable to verify that this flag was taken during that raid..

My most prized war weapon tho is an 1854 Harpers Ferry muzzle loader that my Grandma gave to me...Her great uncle had packed it when he fought with a Wisconsin Volunteer unit in the Civil War...He later gave it to my grandmother to pack for protection from the wolves when she was teaching school in ND...

Nice dagger Hoss. A lot of folks(myself included) don't think much of Mussolini and his fascisti. But like my (Italian) Grandfather said there was a reason the mafia helped the allies. He kicked their a$$es pretty bad.

Yea the old German aristocrats were that way. They would have personally starved to death before asking for any quarter. I had a great uncle that was a Colonel in a panzer unit. Let me tell you that was one tight ass sucker, but he took care of his people in his town because he was the ruling class..Lets face it the good Lord was on our side because if the little Austrian would have not invaded Russia, we might be speaking German today.

I think so. Hitler is one of two characters in history that stand out for being especially bad. The other is Antichous IV. There are other villans but I think these two almost look like they had some kinda "guidance" if you know what I mean.

These guys had military success that doesn't really jive with the state their respective countries were in at the time. You could say the same about Napolean but something's missing I think.

Antichous was tthe "king of the North" in the old testament. He's called the Little Horn by some but I think he was an early plot destroy christ before he even had a chance.

Well, it's sharp on both sides so we know it's not a liberal. If it was teasing you the humor would be so lifelike you'd likely fail to see it and think you were being held up. It's tough enough to stand up to hard use. It's willing to go to war if it feels it needs to... You might be on to something... ;-)
