We had our weed management area meeting tonight. I won one of the door prizes. A quart of Escort. The others there said it was the best thing for Whitetop. I do have Whitetop but I have never used Escort before. Opinions?

All I've ever seen is granulated, not liquid. You probably got 16 ounces granulated. I've used piles of it, half a ounce/acre kills the dog out of bahaia grass. Don't know anything about whitetop.

I agree. Good stuff. Metsulfuron. Just like Cimmarron or Metcel. Gaprime, find me some that will kill maypops and not grass. Only thing I can find is PastureGuard. And it ain’t cheap.

Several brands of metsulfuron on the market. I usually order Manor but they were out and substituted rometsol . Got it in the mail yesterday. I use 1/2 to 3/4 oz per acre and it controls the Bahia in my Bermuda hay fields.

Have you tried garlon 4 or 2-4D? They work to varying degrees on a wide variety of broadleafs but don't kill grass. I've never had a problem with maypops.

Haven’t tried either. Was told the 24d wouldn’t work. But it’s cheap enough to try. So I may try it anyway. One would think Garlon would be hot enough to smoke it.

If you have Griffins put liquid nitrogen on your field they will add in weed master if you ask for it. At least they used to do that, don't know if they still do. Times I've had that done, get some clean first cutting of hay. As I'm sure you know, after the first cutting the grass will outgrow the weeds.

Looked at it closer it is 16 ounces of granulated. I was hoping for the Milestone but the first two people drawn took it. I was #4 drawn. The guy sitting beside me is a hay farmer he told to take the Escort. I trusted him and went with it.

Ordered some liquid N today. Griffins has already halted putting out 24d and dicamba. Gonna use Surmount ($17/ac) for broadleafs and briars, and Velpar ($15/ac I think) for some smutgrass. Expensive but luckily it’s only about 15 acres that I have a problem with. Gotta love rented dirt. On the field with the maypops, rented as well, I think I’m gonna put out the Weedmaster myself. Just have to pick the right conditions and cross my fingers.

Yep. What surprised me is that they were willing to put out Velpar but not 24d. Velpar makes me much more nervous than 24d

I don't know either. That's the gummiest herbicide I've ever dealt with and they can't stop warning you about the consequences of not cleaning your equipment from one end to the other after using it.

Weedmaster hurt my Russell hay field a little bit. Smutgrass has got me bad I'm going to have to deal with it. I already have plenty of fire wood but oh well.

You can spot spray it with Roundup or Gramaxone or a bunch of other things but the only herbicide labeled to kill it without hurting the other grass is Velpar.
