no they wont be touching ground ok thanks for all your imput and knowledge... I am glad I didnt have to pay you a consulting fee dun....LOL I will show pics as soon as i get started on that project probably will be after hunting season. I may even use some rough cut for framing but im not sure yet.
 
I admit, I'm prejudiced because hubby makes corrugated steel at his job. IMHO, steel is better than wood. It is maintenance free and lasts indefinitely. We have outbuildings that we bought "secondary" for, it's been on 20 years and still looks good. Plus it's fireproof. It would look better if you already have other steel buildings in the vicinity. And to store machinery? That is better suited to a steel building than a greyed-out, warped-board rustic type of building that might look more like it ought to hold a covered wagon or a stagecoach. Not the "barn tin", but a good grade of currugated steel, will serve you well.

That very well may be true as far as less maint. and fire proof to a point cause if theres a fire in there that metal can warp and burn off all the paint. and it will look all rusty. I just recently bought a 100 acre tract land next to me so the extra money for the metal isnt there for me unless you are gonna get me some sheets for same price im getting the rough cut wood that im buying....lol... I will even pay for the freight lol
 
Wish we could help you out. But 1, you are too far away and 2, we just bought our "quota" because we put up a building on our place. They don't like employees buying too much. Personal use and taking care of some family occasionally, no problem. But if it looks like somebody is buying so much they are going into business they might not have their job much longer. The wood will look rustic and is not out of place for a country building. Good luck with it!
 
A local farmer told me not to paint the board and batten siding im going to use said to just put burnt motor oil and diesel on it and it stains it and then will protect against fungus growing on it and bugs as well as weather anyone else ever did that ?
 
At 7.35 a board, metal is cheaper. A 1x6x16 will cover 8 square feet. It will take 4 boards to cover the same area as the steel. Plus an extra board and a half ripped in half to cover the cracks (i.e. battons). Thats 5 1/2 x $7.35 = $40.43 to cover the same area as a sheet of $32 siding.
