Building a equipment shed 3 bays 16x16 I priced out painted building metal tin $32.00 a 3'x12' sheet and also local lumber yard selling rough cut cca treated 1x6x16's for 7.35 cents a board. I am undecided which I should go with I mean of course the woods cheaper. I just wanted to have all my buildings the same color and I guess I could paint the wood but not sure if cca treated wood paints well. I also thought about if I should put the lumber if I decide to use it on Vertically or Horizontally and basically overlap it like house siding. I appreciate any suggestions you all come up with.
 
In the long run the metal will probably be cheaper. Paint is pretty pricey if it's good stuff and the labor of putting it on will waste time that could be better spent doing something else, ANYTHING ELSE.

true but then again I may just say screw it and just leave the wood on there unpainted ya know if I decide to go that route.

How well do you deal with nagging?
 
Nagging......... Not very well....lol.. just asked the better half would she mind if the shed werent white like the other buildings ... she said no way cause its close to the house...lol Here we go I really opened up a can of worms now...lol she said if its away in the pasture fine not next to the house...
 
Yea, I have always been partial to wood equip sheds and barns. A guy here sells untreated rough cut 1x6's for like 3 dollars a piece but its untreated and will be easier to paint so I may go that route. What do you all suggest? Should I run the boards horizontal or Diagonal ?

You don't really expect us to believe that do you? :P If it gets you thru the day that is OK, we can understand that. :lol:
 
lol outside is mine too ... but if something i have outside is conflicting with the house then basically I hear mouth...lol and seeing as she holds the " TRUMP " card I try to find a medium grounds...

I am going to run them vertical and put that lil 1x4 strip over the cracks all the way around it.
 
I was just going off of a guess of the size but thanks for letting me know the correct size... How long has your barn been up ? Do you know what kind of wood board yours is made of? I got a guy trying to sell me some pine 1x6x12 either treated or not treated but I want non treated its easier to paint

About 85 years. Rough cut oak and hickory. I don;t know what size is correct, that's just what this old barn has.
 
The rough cut lumber the guy is trying to sell me is pine should I use that or stay away from it since its untreated another guy has some pine boards that are treated I may use instead if untreated pine rough cut boards are not worth it.

If they aren;t going to touch the gorund and you're going to paint them the untreated is probably just as good. In 20-30 years they'll look neat all weathered and aged (warped and cracked)
