I have an 07 dodge 2500 with a 6.7 completely stock. I am tired of seeing the check engine light on and I'm ready to do something. Any suggestions? If I understand what I have read correctly I can delete the egr for about $200, but if I delete the dpf I will need a tuner and the only ones that I can find that allow you to do this are around $1500. Would deleting the egr alone benefit me much or do I need to do both?

Thanks for the links! It is depressing to spend so much on a truck just to have to spend more to make it right.

You can find the egr delete kits on ebay for under $80, the dpf can be deleted with a $150 delete pipe. You can also buy a tuner (efi live) custom tuning that will fool the computer and a nice tow file (around 40hp) for around $600. If done right you can do everything for under $1000.

For tuning google efi live by Ryan (hardaway performance).

In terms of vendors for the delete pipe check rollin' smoke diesel.

I have an '08 6.7 cummins and all I've recommended is what I did to mine.d

I have a 2007 6.7 dually, when I had mine done I was busy and I have some people who do it all the time so I paid them to do mine. To delete and remove everything, replace the pipe, and get a h&s tuner with 75, 125 and 175hp settings was just under 2000$ if I remember right. I kept it stock through 100k miles for the warranty and then about 130k I got it done, best thing I ever did. Didn't need more power, but not having lights on all the time and the fuel mileage has been well worth it.

Sounds like everyone is happy with the results. What kind of mpg improvements did you see?

Mine is a 4x4 regular can dually manual 6spd, I got about a 4mpg improvement. Long trips empty on the highway I get 24mpg. Pulling a 24ft cattle trailer with 10000lbs in it I get 16mpg or a little better. Tandem dually gooseneck with a 16000lb backhoe I get about 14.

Innovative diesel can do the custom tunes (delete the dpf)for you. Tell them your shift points, torque converter lock and unlock, your driving habits, etc. They will make 3 programs for you. I've eek runnin their files for 9 years and extremely happy.

The only company I know of doing custom TCM tuning for the 68rfe is draconian diesel. H&S has an OD software, but I'm not sure if you can still get that as they stay in trouble with EPA seems like constantly. Big difference in the 5R100 you have and a dodge 68 in terms of tuning it.

I talked to a tech from a place in North Carolina today called Rudy's diesel performance. He quoted me a price on a Torque Tech tuner, an EGR delete kit, and a turbo back exhaust for a little under $1600. The tuner is manufactured in Canada and is based of the R S from what I've read.

What codes are you getting with the service engine light? Is it O2 sensors?

My truck is at the dealer right now. They are on the 3rd recall I believe on O2 sensors. My understanding is they have tried to fix pieces of the sensor and harness so far. The latest fix jerks all the sensors and harnesses out and replaces all of it.

Just thought I would throw that out there. May be some thing to look at before you delete every thing.

Rudy's is a good place, they will give you the right advice.

I am not sure what the codes are. I am just to the point of aggravation with it and ready to do something. All that I have read and heard seems like I will be money ahead to delete everything for power, mpg, and longevity of the motor.

I think I am going to order through them. I am glad to hear someone on the boards have used them and were satisfied.

If you have an automatic don't go crazy on the power, the 68 is a good trans at or near stock power levels. If you start pushing it and running it hard with 100+ hp tunes you'll kill it. Stay around 40-60hp and drive with some common sense and you'll love your "new" truck.

I have a straight shift and really don't have any desire to push much more horsepower. Another thing I am unsure of is if the programmer will delete the EGR what is the purpose of blocking it off? The tech said he would go ahead and block it off but didn't explain why.

In that case your stock clutch won't hold up long depending on how many miles you have on it, when it starts slipping replace it with a dual disk. I have an 08 deleted 6.7 manual with a dual disk and its fun to drive.

The programmer should turn off the egr all together. You can either use block off plates or remove it completely. I removed mine completely to clean up the engine bay some. If you bought the egr delete kit (I think you said you did) then it will completely remove it anyway.

My understanding is removing it completely may narrow the places you can resale or trade the truck in later. If you block it off you could potentially put it back stock to trade it in.

Dealers aren't supposed to take a truck that has had the emission equipment messed with. Removing or blocking the egr is same thing in a dealers eye. What ever stuff you remove keep it, that way you can put everything back stock if you decide to trade it in.
