Ear Notching?

What do yall think about ear notching? Have heard some people say it is good to do it because when they go through the ring most people recodnize that as meaning they have been worked.

Any cons to ear notching?

For South Texas this may be true as there are still some people that only see their cattle one time a year. Fourty years ago it was common practice but don,t see it that much any more today.

If you are selling thru a stockyard- I wouldn't notch-- with people doing PI testing and culling- If buyers see a notch they get nervous.

I notch for quick ID of my cattle Also brand and ear tag mothers. This has kept my neighbors honest and I have no doubt when I find one somewhere else other than in my pasture.

We routinely used ear marking as a means of designating bloodlines, but we very rarely sold through the salebarn. Howdyjabo has a good point.
