lol, now the dog and cat are welcome in the house. Pet cows need to stay in the barn even if she brings the paper up. :lol:

Not what I was expecting at all. I am old enough to remember a couple of Hereford dwarves here when I was growing up and they never looked THAT nice, though we never had the health problems other people have described. I would actually tell you "nice calf" if I did not see the scale. I REALLY REALLY would like to know the bloodlines of the sire and dam now.
 
She's the perfect size for a pet cow if you're gonna have one. And a cutie too!

I just sold a runt herf bull -- now had he been that cute, I would have kept him as a pet! She is a doll, but I agree if you are going to keep her, spay her.
 
I hadn't thought about her as a house pet. Hmmmm...we had a sickly goat in the house in Pampers for about a month once...he liked to watch tv...and I've seen dogs bigger than this calf.
I will try to find out about her bloodlines, and let you know. I wish we could actually raise cattle in a serious way. I love cows...there's something calming about the sight of them. This little corner of NJ is still rural, but compared to the places y'all live it's probably just a barnyard. We have 34 acres.

Not what i was expecting either she looks more like a mini than a real dwarf. more uniform from what i can tell.
 
There's no reason you can't raise cattle urbanwoman. You have 34 acres, and the heart for the job. It's just that this particular animal wouldn't be the ideal candidate to start with -- great bloodlines or not, shes got a defective gene you don't want to pass on, and if she got bred, the problems she might encounter calving wouldn't be good for you or her.
 
I am not entirely certain WHAT she is; but she is not a mini. Minis were bred by selecting small Herefords and carefully selecting them for smaller and smaller cattle (just like breeding for large frame size). You don't get mini Herfords or lowline ANgus overnight. This was done in one generation so the dwarf recessive gene is probably the culprit or this could be an entirely different genetic condition (a cattle midget?). Either way I would prefer that that not be multiplied though I am sure there are some petting zoo people who would be interested in exploring this further.

Actually, I shouldn't laugh at this...It just sounds so cute! I can just see that little goat in his pampers perched on the sofa watching tv! ROFL! I would truly hate to tell you how many calves have been in the house over the years, although none of them got to even see the tv, much less watch it! ;-)

Yep, I had to cut a hole. And as the goat got bigger, he went into bigger Pampers. He became quite a favorite at a local nursing home. We take animals there to visit. If Liza Jane can learn to walk on a lead, she'll go visiting too. She's small enough to ride in my minivan.
