Does anyone have one, what do you like/dislike. I was thinking of getting a drone to make checking cattle on there summer pasture quicker. Not because I won't go look at them weekly, but it would at least send me in the right direction to see them without walking the whole pasture.
 
My mate has started using one at his new job at a winery promoting the tourism side of the business and he is wrapped in it so much that he has asked his wife for one for his birthday shortly and what Martin wants, Martin gets. I will be interested to see what he gets and its capabilities and how much it costs. He researches things well so it won't be a toy. I suspect it will be flown around out here at least initially.

I remember when the neighbor first got one. It was a December morning at the crack of dawn. I was slipping down to the bone yard to see if I could sneak up on a coyote dining on a dead cow. A flashing light was coming up the valley. Getting closer and closer. What the heck is this thing? At a couple hundred yards I started looking at it through the rifle scope. No plan to shoot, just looking. It kept getting closer and then suddenly it took a 90 degree turn to the right and headed to the neighbors house. When I got back to the house the wife said the neighbors wife called to tell that our dog was at the bone yard. Wife told her that I was down there to looking to get a coyote. I think that is when the sudden turn occurred.
 
I’m really interested in getting a drone for spraying. They are capable of covering a lot of acres per hour and can cover ground a wheeled machine can’t get near.

They use them some here. Both for spray and seeding on some of the burned ground. I have been told they haul about 80 pounds.

they are around 22k but after you get everything you need I think you're into them for around 30.
 
utility company is looking to replace some poles they can't get to anymore and have been out exploring easment-moving options a lot the last year or so. guy that flies their drone recommended this to me because I asked if it could fly a fence on the mountain and send me pix/video of broken wire. at the point I was about to pull the trigger on it my son and girlfriend came out to practice with their new drone. nobody has found it yet. I decided I could hire somebody to hike fencelines several times per year for that kind of money. :LOL:

i have had a DJI Mini 3 Pro Drone for over 3 years now. very satisfied with it to check my cows. i only use it for about 2 miles away to check which pasture my cows are in before i start looking. it has a come home button to where you launched it if needed or it gets out of range. obstacle avoidance, zoom, lots of stuff i don't even use. (above my head) My 1st drone and easy to fly. Lost it once, but found it, so i painted flourescent stripes on it. paid around 1000.00 three years ago. can't really say anything bad about it. battery last about 30 minutes with a warning when low. can get a longer battery.

Something with obstacle avoidance would be a must have here, many parts of the place are heavily timbered and rough terrain.

I think the drone I have is a DJI Mavic Air 2. It’s really handy at times. I have moved bulls for a couple of miles in terrain I wouldn’t want to be horseback or on a bike. And if I was I would have lost them.
Also handy in the fall after the leaves are off for searching for animals. Lots of uses really if you take the time to use it.
 
a few drones flying around protecting calves.. sheep.. goats. with some stun guns mounted would be pretty nice to have.
