What strange spelling of a word :o .

Why do we doubt ourselves? A lot of people would say because of fear of failure but I believe there is a lot more to it than that. Firstly we are not totally in control of our lives and this breeds insecurity/uncertainty. We can control certain aspects of our life but we cannot control the actions of others. We question our abilities, to me that is the worst. We also sometimes wrongly compare ourselves to others' successes. Support from friends and family is important, what happens if we overhear one of them expressing doubt that your venture will be unsuccessful but you know that accomplishing the venture is well within your abilities.....doubt sets in.

Doubts can be a good thing as well, I suppose it's how you handle it in the end...it could be negative or you could swing it and make it positive. Sorry, I'm rambling but today decided to put doubt, fear and indecision into a box and seal it up very well and continue with my new venture :D

"Our own doubts are our greatest
barriers in any endeavors. We are
only free and able to accomplish
what we think we can. When doubt
arises, defeat is not far behind.
However, that principle is just as
strong in reverse. When we believe
in ourselves, nothing can hold us
back. Our accomplishments are many
when we've developed
the habit of self-assurance."

I have always considered myself an optimist with a larapin dose of reason. I guess that makes me an optimistic realist??? I have also had experience with close family doubting my business ventures. My mom felt so bad for me one time (soon after I had quit my "good paying job" and started my first business venture), she and my step dad offered me a job. They offered me exactly half of what I was paying my own employees  . Of course I did not tell her that. I just politely declined the offer. Sometimes you have to blaze your own trail and not be concerned what others think. In fact, sometimes I pity their lack of imagination ;-)
Good luck alisonb :tiphat:

Thanks Ouachita, and good for you! :D . This venture also involves property. I have purchased the property and now must sub divide, sectional title and then develop to sell. There is the interest rate, working with contractors etc, many things that could blow up but I've bitten the bullet and locked doubt in a box

Alisonb, it has been a long time since I bothered myself about whether someone doubted me. But I sometimes struggle with a low level of insecurity. I no longer put much value on material things: a car, tractor, wealth, assuming I can provide the essentials. Living things is different. I would worry over a sick cow or dog and of course, my son, my brother, my mother, my friend, etc.

I have gotten to the place where I don't get bothered by external stimuli (people are an example). The only one that bothers me is the one between my ears. I tell that SOB to get to he$$ outta here.

All in all, I am pretty dam happy with myself.

Gotta be careful not to do that when folks are around :cowboy:

Good for you Inyati!

When I retire one day I would like to be able to say that but I have to 'get there' first and there are still many things I wish to accomplish :D

Buyer's remorse always temporarily crops up in these kind of things. It'll work out ok for ya AlisonB.

Sounds like you removed doubt from the picture. From here on it's simply a matter of doing what you know has to be done even if it means sometimes making a few detours. Just enjoy the trip.

Good on ya Ali. Like my old hunting partner says "No rocks No Rabbits"

Personally I agree with HD riders statement. My motto for years has been "I may not be right but I am always sure."

"Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way" - Frank Sinatra

Mission accomplished  , a nest egg for my 'older years' :) . There were times I must say that I could just have run away.....

Am not looking for a pat on the back folks, just saying one should believe in themselves....
