Double muscled cattle

Ages ago on TV, I **thought** a documentary said that double muscled calves were delivered by caesar as they were too big. Is this so? They said that repeated caesars were performed over scar tissue too... ouch! and that no anaesthetic was used. Is it a beat up? I would appreciate an email, + info.

Many double muscled breeds do have a large percentage of cesarean deliveries. Standard procedure is a local anestetic and the procedure is done with the animal standing. As for re-opening over scar tissue, I can't say, as I have rarely ever had a c-section done on my place. The last one was some 14 years ago. I don't know if cows develop the same kind of scarring humans do.
Jason Trowbridge
Southern Angus Farms
Alberta Canada
