Not sure where I should put this thread. Here is the story. Yesterday I was putting out hay and since I have three new calves and several more expected shortly I decided to move my hay rings to a pasture nearer the cabin. I usually just roll a ring on my rear hay forks, tie it do an raise it and off I go. Well that has worked since I was a kid. This time as I was rolling along I hit a small hole , probably from a gopher and the ring bounced up over the rops and landed on the steering wheel and my left hand breaking it. Sound bad but this happened as I was going thru a gate. The ring caught the post the gate was hung on and I was pinned between the ring and the tractor seat. The tractor was still going forward and starting to crush my chest. I tried to stop the tractor but barely reached the brake pedal. Luckily the ring made it thru the gate and I only broke a few ribs. Broken ribs can hurt for a long time. If your Dr. Gives you any special instructions, please follow them. I broke almost all the ribs on one side of my chest once. It's been 8 years, and is still holding me back.
 
Glad you are ok. I done almost the same thing on a dozer once. The limb pined me in but also held the gearshift so I couldnt move it. I could not reach the key to turn it off so just held the clutch and had to wait till someone cut it off me.
 
Take care of yourself and let those ribs heal . Glad that you are still here with us to share your story and remind us all to be careful no matter how many times we have done something .
 
Dang, that was close, sure glad it wasn't worse, but sorry it happened. I was pushing trees today and had a rotten one shatter and a piece of it come though the windshield of the dozer and land on my leg, if it hadn't been for the glass I would have had a Brocken leg.
 
Mercy Papa. That was close. Amazing how quickly those things can happen. Hope you don't have too much pain and wishing you a speedy recovery.
 
Glad you came out OK. One thing we always say in our industry (oilfield) is just because it worked forever, doesn't mean it is the proper way to do the task.
 
Everyone thanks for the good wishes. I just really wanted to remind everyone to be careful. There are inherit dangers but lets not tip the scales against ourselves by being stupid like I did.
 
my grand dad always said it took alot longer to get well than it did to get hurt. glad your are ok, i had a neighboor that had a rear fork lift mast on his tractor 3 pt hitch with a roll of hay on it , he raised the lift arms up to high and it broke the 3rd link , the mast fell over on him from the back and killed him, sad thing was , they found him before he was dead , but by the time they could get another tractor and loader to lift it up off , he died, it is usually a 'freak "accident that kills you ,
