Here is my son Tyler-we raise bucking horses along with cattle. The cheapest to run cow for our country is probably a horse lol. Were taking in a big bunch of horses to custom graze this winter. We'll run the younger ones of our own with the cows bale grazing-they do a good job cleaning up behind or digging up swathes for those who swath graze.

Were just in the process of breeding some up-the few we've hauled we get so much a latch. Only have about 30 head now but more coming in the spring-by the time Ty retires-he's 19-we might have something going on.

Got a friend who raises bucking bulls which go on to the "big time". If horses are anything like bulls you'll get one good one out of about 100 if you're lucky. Best Wishes.

friend of mine worked the stockyards he'd buy bulls during the sales take em home buck em out... if they were buckers, they had a home.. if not,, back to the barn from whence they came

If only one percent of your stock bucks you better find a new line of work. Are you talking one percent are 22 point plus bulls?

i suppose 22 points is the minimum... how or who does the scoring,, the breeders? ...or is that 22 riders bucked off in a roll :P

I'm talking bulls that will end up on the pro rodeo circuit. His dad did it all his life and it's all he's ever done as well. I guess any bull will buck but not like the real rodeo bulls that bring the high scores. I know nothing about them, (what's a 22 point bull??) only what he's told me and apparently one or two a year is not bad but then that one bull might bring $30-40 grand or more to the "big name" stock suppliers. Others may sell for much less and get bucked at the little county rodeos but don't sell for near the money. Like beef, it has a lot to do with breeding and how they're rised... I guess he's always looking for that top one or two that will bring the big money.

Bulls are scored from 1-25 by each of the judges like the riders are-it's hard to be 90 points on a bull unless he's a 22 point bull or better. Most stock in the pros are 18-point animals or better. You can go to probullstats.com and see what almost every bull and bronc from every contractor averages and what they've been on them every ride. The bucking bull business in the U'S has some funny money in it right now so there are some crazy prices being paid-it's the in thing to 'own' a bucking bull for guys like 'Larry The Cable Guy etc.

NR I've heard some talk of the "funny money" thing and seems everybody wants in on it. Reminds me a huge arabian horse operation down in Central Texas. A lot of pro athletes owned those multi-million dollar horses and they were kept on this beautiful equine facility. The tax laws changed and most of them went to the packing house OR if you went to the ranch you could get a million dollar arabian for $400.

But like I said, this is all the guy does and he's good at it. Have seen a few of his mama cows sell on Superior Livestock for big money as well. They come into the ring snortin' and slinging snot sort of like the bulls do.

i seen a mogrel heifer, sired by famous bucking bull at bucking bull auction fetch 90k .. she wouldnt have brought $350.00 at the barn

We got rid of most of our rodeo cows going to stick to horses mostly-my studs don't jump the fence and breed my Angus cows lol. Can't wait to hit Kling's sale in a couple weks.

It's kind of an interesting business that's for sure. When I interned at Hawkeye we collected some bucking stock and that was an experience in itself. From what I've heard the cows are worse than the bulls.

pr no doubt the bulls are handle almost contantly,, most are like pets till show time..........which was what i was going to ask NR about,,, with the broncs.. maybe other than halter breaking what do you do with the colts

I don't halterbreak them-they just run out being horses till we try them.
