distillers grain

I always compared it to coffee grounds, once you get all the good out of them you thrown away. Making moonshine is the same , when you get all the good out of the grain you then feed to your animals. Depending on how much moonshine you make, determines on how many cattle you can feed.

We did for a couple of years, worked real well. At that time it was cheap!

How many on here feed distillers grain?

Is it cheaper than most or all other feeds?

Have you had good success with it?
DDG is actually more of a feed ingredient but if you can limit intake you can feed it as the primary source of protein.

That's how we use it now. It's just a component of our weaning ration

I feed it as a source of protein and energy in my dairy ration. It used to be reasonably priced. Lately it has been getting a bit tippy as to whether it is worth the expense or not. The only reason I continue to use it is because the plant is just a few miles away.

Originally DDG was a by-product of the distilling industry. (Think Whiskey). Had a wonderful smell and high quality ingredient. Most of it now comes from the ethanol industry and is still an excellent product. One of the good things about DDG is that it not only can replace some of the higher priced soybean meal or other protein sources but also some of the corn in a diet. High Protein, High Fat, High Energy, High digestibility and low starch. The bad part down this way is that the only way you have access to it is to buy a full truck load bulk which is too much for most small operators.
