disposing of needles

How do most of you dispose of your used needles?
I took a piece of 4" sewer pvc 6" long, put a cap on each end, one end i drilled a 3/8" hole to put the needle in when done, light weight and easy to carry around.

Using that thin of protection does not sound overly safe, how do you dispose of them when your containers are full, I know each state has different regulations

Same here. Either that or toss them out in the neighbor's driveway.

I put them back in the little plastic container they come in. It snaps shut and seems pretty secure to me. Then throw them out the window while driving down the road---the 3rd sentence is a JOKE--OKAY!-- :banana:

That's what I do also, both for cattle stuff and for my needles and lancets from my diabetes stuff. When I had my first bottle full, i took it to my Dr to be disposed of properly. He turned around and tossed it into his trash can to be picked up by a local trash hauler. He said the bottle was perfectly acceptable for safe disposal. He said if they put them in their sharps containers they had to pay the bio-hazards company out the wazoo to pick them up.

Grind them off to nothing on the bench grinder on snip the tip off with wire cutters an put them back in the protector and burn the the whole thing.

Are you serious? I snap them back in their covers, toss them in a tote bag, and dump them in the garbage.

I am very serious, different states have different laws and the do need to be diaposed of properly. Having been jabbed seriously by an improperly disposed of needle, I know how dangerous it can be.

After going thru all the BioTerrorism BS bottom line is that most of them end up in the landfill somewhere. :shock: :shock:

Very well could be, but even so does that give one the right to endanger someone??? Although I suppose that if someone does not care it makes no difference, and I do know of a person that was fined $1000 for improperly disposal, doing just that dumping them in the land fill and was caught!! :(

In this old world....getting pricked by a used needle is the least of my worries. I did notice today that my vet had a dumpster by the clinic. Bet all his used needles and such are in it too.

it is not the little prick that bothers me, it is the trip to the hospital to have one dug out of my foot !!!
It is also the fine if I get caught improperly disposing of them, also of a concern is my grand kids getting jabbed by one that, or my daughters jabbed by one tha has remminant of lute on it.

You might ask your vet !! Just so you are not assuming he tosses them in the dumpster. ;-)

Get an empty metal coffee can and cut a 1" hole in the plastic lid. If that's not big enough, use an empty 5 gallon water jug.

I just throw them in the burn barrel. AFter they've been burned a couple of dozen times and been in the ashes for 3-4 months you can;t even find them. Then we dump the ashes on one of the back fields or in the garden.

Well I'll be damned! I did not know that. I never, ever dispose of a needle without the cap securely in place, but the rest is very interesting. Thank you!
