Can anyone help????!!!! We are looking for a registered brahma heifer, preferably red, for our 10 year old daughter to show in 4-H. She came up with this on her own, in a county where the black club calf is dominant, and we want to help her in any way we can. Please, if anyone has any info for the OK, IL, AR, TN, MO, area, please let me know.
 
If you still can't find a little red Bramer close enough to home, why don't you consider a little Santa Gertrudis calf. After all, they are also part Bramer, red and have big ears :D and probably will "fill out" a little better, in view of the Shorthorn component. And there is at least one CattleToday member from Missouri that raises Gerts, so help may be close by.
 
Does your daughter have any practical reason for wanting a red brahman for her project or is it one of those things where she saw one and thought the ears were cute?

Not to discourage her, but I think if her heart is set on a humped back heifer, she'd have lots more to pick from if she would go grey or red. Don't limit yourself, know what I mean.

I don't know where in Missouri you are, but for the most part, you're a full state north of good Brahman country. It may not be practical for you just as it wouldn't be practical for a 4-H'er at Shreveport to want a Scotish Highlander for a project. As the parent (and advisor) of this project, all of these issues should be discussed with your girl. Maybe the compromise would be a nice Gert, Brangus, or Beefmaster. Just make sure the child is making sound decisions and not using too much emotion.

Good luck with the project and I hope that long eared beast beats all of those little fuzzy heifers at the show.
 
check out the V8 website. Jim Williams raises some nice Brahman. I don't know if he has any red ones, but he will know who to contact. He does a lot of work with the Junior exhibitors in our area.
