Dentist visit

I just had to share this experience at the dentists.
Went in to get a crown done and on my last visit he had to remove a little bit of tissue that was keeping my crown from fitting correctly. We he used a cauterizer.
We found out that it conducts electricity through a root canal very well, when I levitated about 6" out of the chair. :shock:
He thought I was crying, but for some reason I was laughing my head off.
Told him it felt like I bit down on a hot wire. :lol:

I hate going to the dentist with a passion. I took a big hit to my upper torso and head some years ago and had to have my whole mouth redone. It was .... I can't even describe it. While waiting for the "real teeth" to come in I dove into some bourbon one night. Must have hit it pretty hard cause I was able to pour what was left in my glass that morning back into the bottle. Anyway, while rubbing my head the next morning and sipping my coffee - my temps fell into my coffee cup. :shock: Seems we learned that the glue used on temps is soluble in alcohol. :oops: :lol:

I have what is called West Texas Flourosis and have had to undergo extensive dental treatments all my life. Every tooth I have, just about, is crowned, filled or veneered. I hate going, too, but I go every six months to see what needs to be replaced this time.

I was at an endontist getting a root canal. I had gone with the temp crown for a while and it was getting sensitive. That dentist removed the crown and then put the local on there, on a swab, and I, too jumped several feet. He said it was like when you have a sunburn and you first spray Solarcaine on it. He was right. Intense pain followed by nothing. It was the worst dental pain I ever had, and that's saying a lot for me.

I can't stand going to the dentist. Been going to the same guy all my life (I'm 38) and he knows I don't enjoy the experience, but he is a nice guy. My parents have terrible teeth too and my only hope is that my kids inherit my husbands perfect no cavity teeth and 20/20 vision.

I was just talking to my parents last week. Mom had to get a tooth extracted at an oral surgeon and we just can't fathom why someone would choose dentistry as a lifelong occupation.

Almost as bad as the pain and wracked nerves is the cost. Last crown I had was $1500 before it was over.

Yes, since I had my dental insurance for less than a year, mine was 1800.00. I tried to hang with it as long as I could. It finally started to make me sick, so I had to do something about it.

I hear that dentists have a high rate of suicide. Especially children's dentists.

I first heard that 50 yrs ago. It may just be an urban legend. One of those things that could be true on not.

ILh just reading your post was like nails on a chalk board.

I had a crown done last year and they had to do crown lengthening surgery ahead of time.I thought I was going to faint. :cry2: I cannot stand normal dentist procedures probably because I am claustrophobic ,but to see them pulling the stitches through and they are all bloody just about did me in.I think I actually left my body and went some where else for a while.

$2800.00 later and swearing never again. ( $1600 after insurance.)

I am glad that I could contribute to him and his wife buying that brand new home. : :P

I used to hate going to the dentist but since I found a good dentist I don't mind anymore and my grand son LOVES to go. Of course he hasn't had anything done but cleanings so far. :D Every tooth in my mouth is also either filled or crowned. I'm in the process of getting some implants now. Three weeks ago I went to a dental surgeon to have the surgery done. They basically peel the gum back to get to the bone, jawbone in my case, then drill holes and screw some sockets into your jaw. Then you go back in two weeks and they check it out to make sure all is going well and if it is you wait 4 months for the jaw to grow to the sockets then go back again. Then they cut the now healed gum open again to screw some studs into the sockets that stick up above thge gum. Then in 2 more weeks when your gums have healed some you go to your personal dentist and they take an impression and make your some new teeth to glue onto the studs and viola, new teeth. Unfortunately when I went back for my two week post surgery check the surgeon decided he had put the sockets too close together soooo. Yep, he took one out and filled the hole with cadaver bone and I have to go back in 4 months so he can redo the goof up. There's no charge for the extra work he's doing but stil a hassle. Also I won't actually have my teeth in and be done until Sept now instead of May. One good thing tho, I talked him into adding a third socket while he's in there for cost. Now the bill for the surgery for 2 teeth was around $2,900.00. That doesn't include whatever my dentist charges for the teeth themselves. :roll: He's doing the extra for $450.00. Maybe it will all be worth it when I can chew on that side of my mouth again. Hope I live several more years to get some use out of these new teeth. :) Sorry this got so long.

My first 3 crowns were $1000 each and this new one cost $2600
My son does not mind going to the dentist, but my daughter goes completely bonkers. She fell on her bed about 3 years ago and almost knocked out her 4 front baby teeth. They were dead later and we could not get her knocked out in the office to pull them, so we ended up at the hospital next door where they knocked her out completely. Got everything done then.
Can not get the husbad to go to the dentist at all.
This dentist is pretty good. I've gone through a few trying to find one I like.
I've only bit one in my lifetime and he deserved it. went to work before the novacaine took affect. His mistake was checking my wisdom tooth in the back.

Jo I think it is because I have a really weird sense of humor.
I mean I still laugh over things that make most people go OOOHHHH, or poor thing, or that is just plain gross.

This past year the dentist has been my second home, sure feels like it anyways. 3 crowns, 2 fillings, one of the fillings ended up being just a bit too close to the nerve, so I had to get a root canal, and unfortunately all of my dental insurance was used up for the year so I had to pay out of my own pocket for that, now this year already I went in for the crown prep work, and one more trip for the crown. I have a great dentist, however I think overall they just charge way too much money. Even with insurance it is very costly.
