For the last few years I've been using Barnes dehorner's with a nerve block, then cauterize and aluminum spray and it's very successful.
The cattle come out looking like they're polled, no scurs, no health problems.
Recently I tried to use castration bands on a three-month-old calf before the horns attached to the skull.
I shaved the base of the horn so that the hair wouldn't cause the band to slip however I was unsuccessful and getting the band to stay in place.
I have read that people are successful doing it that way does anyone here have feedback on how they have done it?
