I've went to ladder stands primarily. I'd love a tower blind so I could sit all day and have two people in it but don't have the right spot for one. Boy and I use ground blinds during youth season with success but I would rather be in the air.

I have a couple of these "Redneck" stands up around the farm... very nice when hunting with the youngsters! Personally I prefer to hunt out of a ladder stand myself.

The deer stands are showing up. All the feed stores have some sitting out for sale. Some costing several thousand dollars.
I've got a couple of pretty good tower stands I built. But this is what most of my stands look like. It'll get a fresh green cedar roof. In a month or so[/img][/url

Years ago when I really enjoyed hunting I probably hunted more out of ground stands like this than anything. Quick, easy and cheap.....bucket starts eating into your butt after a while though.

I have four ladder stands and three box only time I get in a box is with a grandkid or it is a cold rainy day.
Prefer the ladder in this part of the world where a deer rifle is a 16 gauge as most shots are 50 yards or closer.
Long range shooting after all the leaves fall pull out the 32-40 for those 80 or 90 yard ones.

What has always go me about the ground blinds is its too easy to end up with a critter in there with you. I saw several pics of rattle snakes curled around chair legs in those portable tents last year.

I like a good sealed box to crawl in to in the early hours of morning.

If you want a wake up call early in the morning let a Barred Owl land in the ladder stand with you.
Here before you start up a tree or around a deer feeder you better look dang close for a Timber Rattler.
The feeders are like setting up a buffet diner for them and where the squirrels are is where the deer are
after the same acorn and rattler after the squirrel.

You can see where the window on the stand in my op was repaired after a storm blew it off,. Before I got a chance to fix it . I crawled in one mornin. I like to get in the stand real early ,at least a hour before first light. You enter that stand through a trapdoor in the floor headfirst. I stick my head in right in the middle of a family of ringtail cats. There was a he11 of a commtion in that dark little box. I had my rifle, flashlight , breakfast and thermos on me and the way I was perched on that ladder , half in and half out. I was in no position to make a safe retreat, so I fought. Swinging my flashlight with one hand my thermos with the other. The little varmints making laps around my head. Some went out the broke window , some going down my legs out the trapdoor. I climbed in victorious claiming my spot. One ringtail, mom I reckon Sat
On the roof barking(ringtails bark like a little Chihuahua dog) all her brood was scattered around the brush below barking back. The racket went on non_ stop until daylight.

I assume you being prepared for all emergencies did have a handy supply of toilet paper in the stand. :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

One of the funniest stories i have ever heard was of my boss's bnl going up a ladder on a big tower blind and having a racoon come out when he opened the door and jump on his shoulder. It's hilarious when he tells it cause he kind of reenacts it as he tells it.
