I was going to shear my heifers this winter but I never got around to it...now one of them has a bunch of red, frizzy hair in little splotches all over her. I looks horrible!! I wash her everyday and put her under the fans but its not helping. Will it look better if I dye her? Can anyone help me?

What we have successfully used is what some a bot block. They are used to remove bot eggs off of horses. They are also sold in cattle supplies but I forget what they are called. They are about the dimensions of a postcard but are thicker. They are pourous and black. I don't know how to describe them-I have heard them called a grill block also. Maybe someone on here will know what I am talking about! Good luck!

A grill brick works great. Most feed stores and show supply stores sell them for around $4.00. They are about the size of a brick, so just take a saw or something and cut off an end (about an 1" thick) so it's easy to hold. Then, just brush the hair forward with it. You'll have to stop and clean off hair/switch sides of block as it removes the hair. Do this for about a week and you won't have any more dead hair. Don't "scrub" at it, as it can make the skin sore...just use it like a brush.
Yes, a grill brick will work wonders on dead hair but as advised don't "scrub'. You can go down the body, then use it like you were combing them back to front. Keep her rinsed down and cool and keep her out of the sunlight during the day. Good Luck
