DC Powered Electric Fence Box

Can anyone recommend a good DC powered high tensile electric box?

Any of the ones from Gallagher or ParMak. We use several from both companys but the only ones I can still read the Model number on are the ParMak Mag-12-U-O. Been really pleased with them, plus they have an on/off switch unstead of needing to disconnect them to shut them off

I don;t recall off hand, I think it's in the 8k range. But it's enough that the bulls won;t go near the fence.

Check out the the electric fence chargers from Parmak. If you look at the output in joules you will see that the Parmak has a higher output in joules than any other. The voltage on mine is nearly 10,000 volts. In case you are not familiar with a joule, it is a unit of energy in the metric system and can be thought of as the knock down power in an electric fence wire.

my son is using a 12 volt Par Mak manufactured for Southern States.

he says it will dang near shoot fire. He really likes it. I have been putting off getting one and splitting my fences.

I already have a solar panel charging a battery for dc lights in my stable. could easily run the 12 volt charger off the same battery.

Worked on mine this week. It was only about 4K so I knew it was not right. Cleaned contacts till in went to 10K :banana:
Then hooked up the next paddock and it dropped to 6K -- so some more work is needed.

My system is 7 or 8 years old. I use 2 galvanized grounding rods, 12 ga galvanized wire to the charger, and a mix of copper or galvanized connectors. Had corrosion is some spots that I took off with a brush. May need to replace some of the hardware.

Should I be using some grease or other product to reduce corrosion?

Any time you mix galvanized and copper you going to get contact problems eventually.

I was buying copper connectors in town but now I have to go back and redo...

ParMak. Had a lightning strike to my solar unit. It was 3 years old and they fixed no charge. Kids will "squeeze" thru some of my fences, but not this one

My Parmaks run off just a deep cycle batery without the solar panel. It's pretty rare when an area is set up with them for more then a week, sometimes later in the year 2 weeks. A decent deep cycle battery will keep pumping it out for at least that long.

A fresh trolling battery will last 3 to 4 weeks.

The problem I have with Pro Pak is they can crap out after a heavy rain. Do I need a wood box to mount it in or what ???
