Daughter vs. Lamb

Our daughter raised 2 lambs for 4-H again this year.
The Judges last year pretty much told everyone that they liked the black faced lambs so everyone brought one in this year.
New Judges this year. :banana:

Anyway our daughter was leading her lamb into the show ring and this lamb outweights her by around 80 pounds. He shoves her and knocks her down right inside the gate, right about where she tripped and fell last year. :lol2: The people allowed in the ring got her up.
So she is going around with her lamb and is doing much better then last year, lamb shoves her again and she falls again, but this time is some what able to catch herself. Judge helps her get up and they exchange a few words and the Judge has the biggest grin on his face.
Turns out she had told him that her lamb "Shoulder Roast" was just being a bad lamb today. :lol2: :lol2:
She didn't win one of the big ribbons, but got a small blue for her showmanship. :clap: :clap:
She has improved greatly. She wanted to take her speckled face lamb to the fair, but we had already butchered him. I told her even the best behaved lambs or other animals will act differently in the ring. Told her it was best to learn how to handle both.
Got a red ribbon on market lamb. Judge said he was a nicely finished lamb, but was just a bit over finished. His weight in he was 156 pounds. Last years lamb was 109 pounds.

Well done to her for not giving up after her fall, hopefully nexxt year she will win the ribbon.

Chrisy she had fun and is learning and that is what is important. She told me she just wanted to show dairy next year, but I'm encouraging her to continue with the lamb until she is ready to do the steer. Told her to look at it as more practice.

She also showed in the rabbits. She got third place out of 3 showing. :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:
Had a new bunny that was young. Just some time and work and she should do better.
She had lost her 3 rabbits in June due to a nasty thunderstorm. Who knew that close of a lighting strike could scare rabbits to death.

After the lamb show everyone commented on how much she had improved from last year.

Congrats to the daughter for what my daughters called, "cowgirling up!!". Wonderful times. My wife and I started the bucket calf class at our county fair, now it is extremely large and has added to the cattle projects total numbers. Those lambs can be a handful. :clap: :clap:

We had a major melt down about 30 minutes before the sale. She had sellers remorse.
Got her to stop crying and remember everything. She was putting on a pretty brave face in the sale ring though.
Got $5.25 a pound for her lamb. That will cover the feed cost and the cost for next years lamb. Plus the supplies she will need for doing Dairy next year.

Only disappointment was we had hoped she would have won this certain award, but she didn't. Our leader did not nominate her. Only 1 kid was nominated for it out of all the clubs. :roll: :roll:

I am sorry for your daughter that he was behaving so badly but I can see why the judge chuckled :lol: . BTW that lamb is huge !! great job your gal did on finishing him :D

It may be me, but ILH's daughter sure looks like a young Reese Witherspoon in the pic .

I had no idea who Reese Witherspoon was so I went to google and Wikipedia. There is a picture of her in a dark dress on there that looks like ILH's daughters big sister.

HD that lamb outweighed the grand champion lamb by 1 pound.
I have had people tell me before she looks like Reese Witherspoon.
Ryder she is now 10.

That's a great story and a great lamb :-) why do you guys have to throttle you sheep in the ring? Looks awkward and difficult! We just use halters :-)

Keren that is what is required in our 4-H shows. I have no idea why.

Suppose to have one hand behind the ears and the other under the jaw. She was always grabbing her lamb that way.

Strange! Think my sheep would pitch a fit if I had to show them that way :-) they are slippery little buggers too :-)
