Dang cows are out again!!!! Fourth Time

Got another call today about my cows being out. Never realized an angus looked so much like a Jersey. It must really be hard for non cattle folks to figure this $hit out. Remember my neighbor? Well the guy that farms down the road from one of my farms. The NASA O ring scientist? The one with the bull that can't walk that scoots himself around on his front feet that they are feeding out since euthanizing it would be cruel. The one that the Humane Society keeps visiting. Surely you remember this fella. The one running 8 head per acre and supplimenting the dirt with wheat straw. The one with the 25 head of goats feeding alongside his milk cows.(when they aren't grazing asphalt) The one with the 17 I'm sorry I forgot about the collision the 8 geese that stay on the highway. Ahh surely you remember him. You know, the one that paid $8000 for an acre of land so he could expand his ranchette. Yes that's the guy. Apparantly his idea of using a fence on the south and west side of the property just isn't panning out like he figured it would. I would think that in time the good folks at 911 would figure this stuff out and remember THEY AREN'T MY FRIGGING COWS!

I got a cattle out call from a hobby horse outfit last week. Sent the wife to take a look. It was a 400# red heifer. We have 700# black stocker steers on that farm. :roll: My wife is a city girl but she had to shake her head on that one.

I have to laugh every time I call somebody to tell them there cows are out. Their first response is not "Where are they?", but is "Did somebody run over one?". Seems the answer to whether they are his cows depends on what the damage is.

I hate receiving this type call cause you never know. I drop what I'm doing to go see cause I surely don't want anyone to get hurt. That's why on the road side I have 5 strands of barbed wire and electric as backup. What bothers me is that these calls are beginning to wear on me cause they are always this guys cows and like the fable about the boy that cried wolf I don't want to get where I blow it off cause the day I do is the day mine will actually be out. I just wish this idiot would understand that if you only fence two sides of your property you leave two ways for the livestock can get out. Its unbelievable. If I was an insurance agent I surely wouldn't want to insure him.

Someone getting hurt is always my first concern. I have been offered on several occasions a pasture that runs beside an interstate. I went and looked at it once and it is a pretty pasture but the fence sucks on three sides. The side next to the highway is kept up by the state. I asked if the landowner would trade fence repairs for rent and was told there was nothing wrong with the fence just make sure I had good insurance. I insure everything but just can't stand the thought of a carload of people getting killed when it could easily be avoided.

I know what you mean. I don't know how this guy can sleep at night. I know I couldn't. I was offered a place next door this year to graze wheat and I turned it down due to the fences. I could have fixed the fence but it would have cost me and I probably wouldn't have gotten to use it again after I did all the work.

I put one of the neighbor's in today, it was out on the second busiest road in the whole county. I was amazed that people actually slowed down and stopped when I motioned for them to do so. Cops showed up just as I put her back, right on time!

There's certain neighbors I don't mind helping, he's one of them.

Unfortunately, it was more like 200. That road is ridiculous. It's the only shortcut between two main roads in this area. But if we ever sell this place, that road'll make it worth a mint.

I had been having trouble with someone opening the gate, as well as other neighbors having the same problem, So I put a padlock on. Anyway the next day I get a call at work. Your cows are out again. I drop what I was working on and head home. I get to were they are supposed to be out and they are all kinds of colors. I think there was a white one , red, black, black white faced, red with brockle face, ect. I tell them thanks for calling but it wasnt mine this time. I said if you ever find a red whitefaced cow or calf it is probably mine, but I dont own any 700 lb bulls red with a brockle face. Seems the bull was trying to breed his angus cows.

I called the guy who I thought owned them and helped him get them back in. They must have been out for awhile they where about 5 miles from home.He is about 70 or older and still farms. He has been trying to get his crop in between showers and had neglected the cows.

I've seen more cattle out in the past three months than I've seen all my life. Two of those were the guy down the road. He's remodeling a house and grazing calves on his place there and they have a tendency to wanter the road, which is busy, curvy, and very dark at night. I should know. I nearly ran over one after picking my son up from a practice at school. Called 911. They said it was already reported. Calves wandering the road and you can't see them until one spooks and runs out in front of you... Dangerous.

I hate those calls, especially when they are NOT your cattle.

Jo had a neighbor call me years ago. Woke me from a nap. (3 months pregnant) Telling me to come get our heifers out of their wheat fields and hang up. No idea who called.
hunted up the hubby and we went to where our heifers were at on the uncles place. All there.
Went to the main herd. Counted them all there too.

Next day saw some cattle in the pasture behind our house. Stupid neighbors couldn't read a brand and put a different neighbors cattle in our pasture. Our brand is right rib other guys on left rib. :roll:

Had another neighbor threaten to shoot our cows if they got out in his winter wheat again last year. Karma got him, his whole wheat field got hailed out.
we are running an electrical wire along that stretch this year.

Jo it seems like any cattle get out around here I get a call. I think I am the most convenient to contact. Most of the time anyone cattle or horses get out they end up on my place or in my yard. Cows can be aggravating.

GENERAL ADVICE FOR ANYONE IN THIS SITUATION

if they are not your cows......
make for darn sure that is reflected on any police reports.
if you have a history of having cows out........
even if the history is faulty police reports due to the neighbors cows......
your insurance might not back you.....
or pay for any damages.
