I have been blessed today with a gout attack.
Holy shyt I am thinking one quick swing with a good sharp hatchet. Taking off the left big toe would be less painful.

Cherry juice, less red meat and less alcohol. Don't know if you drink but I think I read somewhere you said you're baptist

Well first I am not a Baptist, I haven't eaten any meat but chicken or venison in the last week.
I haven't had anything to drink in two to three week's. I only ocasionally have a mixed drink.
I have no clue what triggered this attack but it is a humdinger. I can't even put weight on that foot.
I am bad as Si about tea.

Indomethacin.

I don't have any does Prednisone work.
I have revised my toe amputation plan to a 1911.

Get some as fast as you can (Rx) and don't ever run out. Between gout attacks take Allopurinol as a preventative. The hatchet idea is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Cheery juice is a proven alternative to taking meds between attacks and also helps break down the crystalline structures during attacks.

I've read that too, Hook. Only when I had my first attack I was in pain for four days drinking the cherry juice. With the Indomethacin the pain starts subsiding within 24 hours, quicker if you take it when the symptom first starts. I feel for you CB. It's bad when the bed sheet hurts like he!! just touching the toe.

I've never had it. Just seen my buddy get hit with it after a guys weekend in the islands and then a wedding. He attended with one dress show and one flip flop. Lol

The bed sheet is what woke me up this morning.

Couple of friends of mine says Ibuprofen (antinflammatory) when you feel it coming on will work.
Take 600-800mg. Maybe AM and PM. Don't stay on it too long as it can cause other problems.
I think they only take it one day to stop the gout.

CB got a friend that seems to come down with it everytime he eats boiled shrimp. Of course he usually tries to eat a bushel basket full of the things too.

LOL>....You should know by now to expect more than that from ole CB.....I mean, he kicks those apart with little effort...even with a little gout in a toe. :D

I've been blessed not to experience gout except through others. Hope it stays that way. My wife had an episode a couple months ago....wasn't pretty.

Prednisone will work too but I think you have to take a number of them for so many days. My little brother got it the other day from chicken wings. Or I should say a couple bags of chicken wings over a couple days. He's now drinking cherry juice daily to prevent. Dad was prescribed something else to take daily, not sure but it could be the other drug that was mentioned.

can make your head look like a washtub to.....

I have experienced what I think is gout twice in my life, both times with in the last six months. If I'm correct the intense pain is in the ball of the big toe (?) correct? But what turn my light ball on is how pain just laying a bed sheet on the toe can cause. I thought I may have broke my toe somehow the first time and later reinjured it but could not remember how I injured it. But some of the worse pain I have ever had, including broken bones and nothing in my medicine cabinet could touch any sort of relief.

Thanks for the tips On meds and cherry juice!

Alan

I've been taking Allopurinol for the past 5 years and haven't had an attack during that period of time. Before that I was fighting gout all the time and the cherry juice trick never worked for me.

Gout is some evil stuff that NEVER goes away. All you can do is hope to contain the flare ups.

Good luck CB.
