Just ran across this site today! Very excited about finding this site.

I have been looking all over for a source for Dallisgrass. I live in California, but I've been checking all over the US with major seed companies that I can find on-line. I think I need to find a supplier from the southern part of the country, where it is [apparently] usually grown.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, they have been out for at least 2 months. After you posted your reply, I rechecked the site...still out. However, I called them and a man was able to tell me that most of this seed is grown in Australia and they have been through a drought...no more seed until spring!

I may be reduced to trying to find a small dealer somewhere with some dallisgrass seed still laying around.

Thanks again for the reply, though.

I don;t know about Dallisgrass, but frequently if others aren;t growing ther stuff in your area it's because it doesn;t perform in your environment. You might check with UC Davis if you haven;t already to see if they have any knowledge of it's use in CA. Being a pioneer has it's reqrds, but if you can talk a seed company into providing the seed for you to do a demonstration/test of it you can knock down your investment. Plus they'll be pretty eager to insure that it works.

What a guy!!! Hey, thanks a lot. I look forward to receiving the seed dealer's phone number.

The UC pasture specialist agreed that it would grow well in my area. Unfortunately, nobody I can find is growing it. And thus, no seed dealers carry it. None seemed interested in procuring any for me, either. So I'm on my own! As you said...being a pioneer.

Thanks for the reply. I've received more help and support here on this website than I have in my last couple months of searching. I think I'm going to like it here!

Tophand, The last Dallisgrass seed I bought was about four years ago. It was from Australia and a little different from the Dallis grass around here. Was 85% germination rate and spread laterally faster than the normal Dallis grass we have.

If your soil and climate will allow it to grow in your area, go for it!

PS, LAS1, a ladino clover works well with it here.

Alabama,

I'm new to all this. I assume "PM" meant the 'private message' button. I haven't received any notice from you. Do I need to do something special, or go somewhere else to receive a "PM"?

Thanks for any help.
