Just got back from the fair board meeting and we voted to have a Dairy show this year.

This is the first one in around 16 to 17 years.Just thought I would share that with someone other than myself since everyone here is asleep. JHH
 
Thats a long time not to have a dairy show. Thats my specialty area ;) I have a great steer for this year. Are they only going to allow cows, heifers and bulls? Or will they allow Dairy Beef too?

I love IDW its a great show. Much more relaxed than anything I have been to - if you show on thursday you can bring your cattle in thursday morning and leave in the afternoon, or you can stay all week. They have excellent dining facilities, a great undercover and air conditioned show ring, they bring in loads of spare sawdust everyday. They really look after the exhibitors, which isn't something that occurs at a lot of shows unfortunately.

I'm usually there through elders, looking after the cattle for the big holstein sale. Last year we had 50 odd cattle between four of us. This is the first year I'm not going, cos I've now got too many work commitments at home.

First dairy show, they have always had the beef show.

They allow heifers,cows,bucket calves, and yearling bulls.

We had over 100 head for the open beef show last year and only 3 herefords were entered. Everthing has gone to black hide. JHH

I think they should keep up with dairy shows just like beef. In some places its very big sport, but seems like around this side of the states its not that big anymore.
Our county allows heifers, cows, yearling and bull calves and steers. But state fair they want nothing to do with steers, just breeding stock... so I'm out of the game for dairy at state fair.


At our county fair last year, there were many black beefs there but there was also about five herfs, three roan shorthorns, red angus, and some maines. The rest were black.
