dairy cow dripping milk 2 weeks before due

Wondering how to best protect cow from infection in this hot fly ridden month. I'm bringing her in each morning and feeding her half ration. I starting post dipping this morning and of course keeping a close eye on her for signs of labor. I tried premilking a cow last year and the birth seemed to be delayed and the calf stillborn. What do ya think about premilking? and/or dealing with dripping cow. Thanks!

I never pre milked my dairy cows. The cow that you milked last time precalving, I would doubt it caused a delayed birth and a still born calf. I usually just let my cows drip and then the calf was only a few days later.

My guess is that the calf will come in the next few days and not two weeks from now.

This is a classic sign, that birth is pending, a few days out, I'd just leave her alone, and wait.

My Jersey, most of the time, will start dripping 2 days prior to calving. Pre-milking is something I would not do. The calf needs the colostrum.

Just keep an eye on her, she'll probably calve within the next few days.

Leave her be.

God and Mother Nature and the entire cow family for thousands of generations have been getting on without interference from man.

Just stand back and let her be - she will be fine.
