My son is getting married in Indianapolis Friday afternoon. I have dressed up twice in the last 7 years - mom and dad's funerals. I was looking for my dress shoes. When I looked at the black pair of shoes, I thought how old and out of style they were. Then I thought of dad's old black dress shoes. The last time my dad dressed up, we were going to Uncle Joe's funeral (his last brother who died at 94 years old, dad was the youngest of 11 siblings). Dad's shoes were ancient. He had polished them so many times, there was black layers of crusty polish flaking off. I ask dad how old they were. He said they were over 30 years old. The fronts were cracked. The insides were warped. He said "heII, I only wear them once a year. I dam shore ain't gonna buy something no more useful than that." I laughed, mom laughed and he laughed.

Please tell me your feet fit in those old shoes and you're going to wear them for the wedding ...

For better or worse, he and I were almost identical in body. But those shoes are gone.

I'm proud to say that both my brown and black dress shoes were purchased in the '80's and are still as good as new. :lol2: :lol2:

When I slick up I still wear the boots and sport coats I got in 1965. Pretty obvious I'm not a fashion geek.

Anyone who's funeral I'd attend would be quite alright with me in my work boots.. probably weddings too!

They're the same . . . . . . .weddings are funerals.

Just one less drunk!

The shoes I wore to work today are 42 years old. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn.

They are black wingtips. I don't think you can get many shoes these days that would last that long. They've been soaking wet more times than I can remember. Still look good. New soles and heels many times.

Are they Allen Edmonds? My black wingtips are 24 years old. I don't wear them often anymore but my feet like them when I need to dress up in my costume.

My " dress boots" are slip on redwings that I haven't worked in yet. I just rotate boots when work boots are done I buy new dress boots and old dress boots are now work boots.
