Got home today had a 2nd calf cow with pump handle tail in noticeable labor. I watched for an hour then came in house for hour went back and checked bag still wasn't ruptured but could see a tiny hoof upside down. Took about an hour to get her worked t o head catch. She was not dialated enough so I pulled the breech calf gently and got him out . Dead and premature was about 7mths. Weighed 20# not how I wanted to start

I wouldn't hold on to that cow.. I've had one that calved at 7 months, and once she started doing it she kept on doing it... she only kept her place here because by some luck (for her) I'd have a twin or orphan and she'd accept it

So she would calve 2 months early, and you would happen to have another calf around?

Or you would milk her for 2 months until the others arrived?

Thanks she raised a good calf as a heifer. I've always had pretty look low mortality rate. But this is the first for me this late term

No she was the younger looking char. No horns
