Wife wants to take a cruise every other year for Christmas when the kids don't come home. We just got off the Carnival cruise 7-day from Jamaica to Cozumel. Found that the service really went down hill after about the 4 day.

Any cruises or cruise lines you guys like?
 
Went once on Royal Caribbean several years ago , and had a pretty good time. Things may have changed a lot since then, but folks were nice and everything seemed pretty clean.
 
We've been on a few cruises over the last few years, for the most part I enjoy them. They are like anything else, you go into it concerned about liking it, it will be less of an adventure. I have never noticed a slump in service, but I sure noticed a slump in casino payout. I think part of it is the room you have. We have always had a room with a balcony, not one staring at a life boat. So we have always had a place to go and relax away from the crowd, set on the balcony, enjoy the peace and quiet. We have not dealt with an inside room with no windows and .......food 24/7!

I want another cruise

My wife her sister and BIL have made a couple of cruises on Norwegian lines and enjoyed them. They're going again in March
 
As much as we complain about this country, right here is where I plan on staying. You won't see me leaving US soil. That doesn't answer your question, but that is my advice about travel.

Landlubber, but I've seen and felt your point several times. No CC allowed on cruise ships.

My wife has quit asking me if I want to go on a cruise. I told her I had enough cruises in 20 years to last me a lifetime.
 
I keep seeing the ads for the Viking river cruises in Europe. Family members did one a few years back and loved it. They are supposedly wonderful (small ships, neat ports of call) but pricey. Other than that one or maybe Alaska, I'm not into the whole "floating city (and germs) on a boat thing." I like to organize things myself and not go with the pack....

I would recommend AirBnB for anyone wanting a unique travel experience. We spent 2 weeks in Scotland last summer and stayed with AirBnB homes the whole trip. Got to meet some interesting folks, stay in small towns and rural areas we would not have seen otherwise, and save some coin. (Sorry, got off topic a wee bit).
 
Having worked in SE Alaska for a number of years, if I were going to cruise up there I would take the Alaska ferry system. You can work out your own schedule. Get off at the various towns along the way, stay for a while and catch the next ferry north or south. Not as much luxury as a cruise ship but you will see a lot more of Alaska.

Bikinis and 24/7 ice cream, at least I can enjoy the ice cream without feeling like a perv. 8)
 
For Those That Like Cruise, but not Mega hotels.
Check out Seabourne Cruise Lines, not cheap, but does smaller ports think all ships
limited to 300 suites. Wife & I have done two, for me well worth the money !!!!
 
Dave is spot on. Alaska doesn't have many roads but they have an extensive ferry system which will take you all the way around Alsaka. You can get off at a stop, see the country side and catch the next ferry to the next stop. If the wife and I ever go on another cruise that's the one we will take. Last cruise was on Carnival and after the first couple of days it got real boring (except for the young, scantily clad ladies running around).
