I have Reg. Gelbvieh cow going to have her thrid calf this spring had been bred to Angus in the past and raised too dandy bulls. My question is, this time she is bred to Reg. Polled Hereford "Nasdaq son". Her sire was red her dam black what should I see as far as color or could it be either?

Calf will be red or black with a white face.

Thanks RBB,Thats what I thought just making sure. Her top side is all red, bottom all black so,I figured it was a crap shoot. Everything I have except for that bull is black or Bwf.

Since she is heterozygous black the calf could be either, if she was red the calf would be red. The hetero/homo deal is why it's important to know the lineage behind an animal, that is if color is important to you.

Yep, gonna be a crap shoot for sure. Thats one of the joys of crossbreeding.
With so many red breeds turning black you don;t even have to crossbreed to get the color chances.
