Are you by chance anywhere near Herrington? That's where my dad's side of the family is all from. He still will auction up that way sometimes but not as much as he used to.

pics are about a 6-7 weeks old. Calves are quite a bit larger now I hear. The farm is north of Herrington a good long ways, we're just a few miles from Nebraska at the house.

Furtherst north I've been up that way in the last 10 years is Concordia, KS. Some dang good bird hunting up there!

Seriously, nice cows, though you knew that already. They look like theyve been pulled at both ends and stretched in the middle.

let me try...

1) could use a little more definition of muscle on the rear and I wish she'd have been polled, she was dehorned as you can tell by the square head.
2) 16 year old cow... nothing to complain about there, she could use a little more rump (not visible in this picture) and a titch more length, but that is something all her calves have plenty of.
3) could use more floor on her udder, a little more deffinition of muscle and a more noticiable rear end along with a titch more depth, but her calf is HUGE
4) wish she had more depth of chest and was a little bit shorter, she's probably the only 6.5 frame cow we have that's gunna stay around, the others are headed down the road this fall. she could also use some more muscling in her shoulder to compliment the width of her back half

Criticism..... yellow ear tags. I never did like yellow tags. I always prefer red or green myself. We could get picky but heck there are no prefect cows. Those are nice cows that will work anywhere.
Well except I would have to cut off those ear tags.

#3 I don,t like her depth or her udder.

#4 don,t like her depth.I think is likely harder keeping?

The other 2 I ,d take home anytime.

#3 was just sucked so that's why the udder is that poor but still needs some work along with some depth to go along with her length. #4 is just older than dirt, at least 13 years old and gettin pot bellied, she isn't hard keeping at all, the hard keepers hit the lot then the road.

from the pictures, 1 looks the best. i like what i see of 2 and i like her calf. 3 looks to lack a tad in depth, but she is long as a train which could make her appear not as deep.. jmo.. and 4 ... well she is just average looking. a little pot bellied and a little thin. but you said she was 14, so considering that, i know she is, or was a very good cow or she would not have lasted that long.

Unless your getting ready to sell off all the cows I don't know why you want the cows examined but I will say they all look nice but don't think they would hold up real well in the show ring ;-) . Is this a keep or cull question? If you posted a picture of each calf along side it's mama that may help me anyway to determine if I like the mama or not.

If you raise cow/calf pairs like me you aint as worried about what the mama looks like as what the calf looks like.

Don't see a picture of your bull but did see a red calf runnin' with them black cattle.

I can have a downright ugly cow but she can throw some dang nice calves if paired up with the right bull. If she's a good mama, calves easy, throws nice looking calves the buyers like, then I don't care what her picture looks like as she's gonna be a money maker for me.

Lastly, just gotta ask why do you want the cows looked at? Are you selling them or their calves? Sounds like you got a few that's getting up there in years. Are you looking at building your herd back off some of their calves?

Good cows,good to cross with Brahman or South Devon.
Yellow tags are great for the sight impaired. We use a different colour for each year in our commercial herd. We use a reddish pink for the stud cattle.

Was thinking that a little bit of make up would go a long way in covering up her age... perhaps some Sunset red lip gloss, and some highlites in her hair.. just enuff to take the age spots away from her.......perhaps a string of pewter pearls, and a nice sun bonnett with just a dash of color........ and she is an obvious smoker... I see all those crows feet around her lips:lol: :cboy:

#4 reminded me of a couple of cows we had that always had their head in a feed bunk.

Well don,t feel too bad , I have a couple like her too.Still here because of their calves.
