creep grazing

Help Support CattleToday:

I have not, but I remember my grandfather doing it way back in the 70's. It seemed successful for him. He did it with alfalfa as best I remember.

I am considering doing it next fall/winter with grain rye. I have two sandy fields (that grow rye better than anything else)right next to my hay feeding area that would theoretically work great. This could be a way for me to make fall calving work.

I like the idea, and it would surely be cheaper than feeding a concentrate.

We have a creep pasture next to a feeding area that we use during dry spells. We had to make a creep gate for the calves since a few of the cows will army crawl under a raised wire, and a lot of the calves respect the wire so much they won't try to go under. Works out nice once they figure it out.
