We had a hard frost here last night - temps got down to 27/28 degrees. :o All of the leaves on the corn are turning black, but I'm not sure if the frost killed it or just set it back. The weeds are all wilted like they have been sprayed, too. The higher elevations got snow, and The Summit was closed between Cheyenne and Laramie. Crazy weather!
 
:shock: That's cold! Definitely not acid rain but it could be due to global warming. Definite probability anyhow. :roll: :lol:

Hope your corn and grazing didn't get whacked too bad.
 
So far, the grass and barley doesn't seem to be affected, but when looking across the corn fields from the side, they appear to be just this big patch of black!
 
thats pretty cold for corn. is this just a one nite ordeal?? if its just one nite it should come outta it, but if its mulitply nites i would get worried. hope it all works out for ya.

How tall is your corn? If that inside new leaf isn't froze you will know in a couple days. If it's frozen, you corn will be laying flat soon. We had a killing frost the 15 of August in 02 killed the corn dead, the corn was just pollinating, lost an entire field, would not even make silage. I wish you luck.
 
:shock: Msscamp, I hope its not a total loss.

I'm not familiar with Wy weather patterns, but years ago, when I was living in NH, it wasn't too unusual to have a frost in June.

I agree with others, global warming. ;-)

The corn was about 2" tall, and had probably 5 or 6 leaves on it. It is now wilted, droopy, and discolored. The stalks seem to still be green, though, so it might come out of it - I don't know, this is my first experience with something like this.
 
The first planting is up to two inches the second hasn't germinated yet...will put in the third next week and fourth two weeks later.
Market corn....super sweet...what we don't sell and can give to the family andf neighbors the cows get.
We have been in the high 90s then back to normal high 60s.

This was field corn, Dave, there is no 2nd or 3rd planting.

We're hoping. It isn't our corn - it belongs to the guy who rents one of our pivots and the north field - but he is a super nice guy, and we're hoping the corn pulls out of it.
