Mo_cows hit the nail on the head. I think Blue is hurt more mentally than physically. They would have killed him in another few seconds. I also agree with Alan, the black dog is the problem. The vet and I talked about pack behavior. When a dog looks weak, even dogs that normally are not aggressive get in on the attack.
The dog that had Blue by the neck was a yellow lab. The marks were more like a real bad road burn. The vet said the dog was holding him as if his skin was in a vise. The bite on the neck is the only one that did not have punctures. The vet explained how the skin pulls away on a dog. Blue is on a week of oral antibiotics. He said if I see drainage to bring him back and we would do some irrigation and put in drains. The wounds on the upper front legs have drained but not as much as the vet thought they would. The leg wounds are all the way through the leg. A miracle that his humerus is not broken. The neck wound is healing well.
I am amazed at how quickly Blue is healing. I did not think he would ever be the same. As is stated in some of the responses, I hope this improves his behavior. Sad part is, Blue stays on his turf. He and I own the farm as partners. I don't like him being attacked on our land. Nothing that need be done now. I know who owns the black dog. He does not come on my land very often. But I know the black dog is trouble waiting to happen. If I shoot him, that starts a war that might end with someone getting killed and someone going to prison!
