Cow slipped a calf this morning 2/13. No where near due date of 3/25. Calf was much more developed than I would have expected. Proabably weighed around 50-55 pounds. How early can a calf come and live, assuming you find him and give him some colostrum if needed?

This calf appeared to have been born dead, but how common is it for a cow to slip a live calf?

Lepto causes abortions usually around 7 months gestation. There are many other reasons. Just like people, calf may have just died for no reason & her body rejected it. If you have a good health program & vaccinated for Lepto & other abortion causing diseases (IBR, etc) you shouldn't need to worry. IF not, and you have more cows to calve, I would be getting that calf tested for an abortion causing disease.
But, like I said, abortions can be just a normal process.
