Cow problem

Came home from work and one of the cows had her cervix
out, :shock: Loaded her up and dropped her off at the vet so he could put it back. From your previous experiences, should
she " grow wheels" ( love that expression! :P never heard it before) Or let her calve ( due in March) She is a 10 year old
Angus ( good producer) bred to a polled hereford bull.

I only see 2 options. Option 1 is ship her as a kill/weigh cow now. Option 2 is keep fussing with and worrying over the prolapse problem. Then after she calves don;t rebreed her, wean the calf, then ship her as a kill/weigh cow.
Did the vet stitch her up or just replace it?

this happened to me last year, i let mine calve and i lost the calf, i didn't get the stitches cut in time, she wouldn't let me near her. my first experience, not fun at all. during calving season i check my cows at night before i go to bed and i noticed a bulge on another cow, it went back in when she stood up, i sold her along with the other one. i know what to look for now.

The vet stitched her up and said that the stitches might hold and then again she might prolaspe again. The vet also said
that he did not like me messing with her as she tried to
"take " him as he was putting her in the chute. He cautioned
me to not load her without help. :x She is going to the sale
barn this afternoon. The vet did not give her any meds so she
is clear. :| WE have some nice replacement heifers coming on, so it is time to cull anyway.

Alot of brahman influance cattle or prone to vaginal prolaspe.ive seen my own a few days before calving when they were dialating pretty good lay down it looked like they were going to prolapse any minute stand up goes back alot off it is the loose hide & vaginal muscle.

the vet told me as long as it goes back in it will be alright. if it comes out and stays it will dry out , it gets worse every year.

Just dealt with one of those prolapses last week.

Dandy black baldy cow of mine had a preemie this spring, but she must have hurt herself when delivering, because I noticed she was cycling again this fall when we brought the cows home from pasture.

The bulls had been riding her the week before the prolapse, so must have aggravated an existing injury enough for her to push her cervix and in turn her rectum out. Unfortunately, she died four days after Honey and I put it back in and sewed her up. :(

Only plus is that she was one of the cows that I had purchased on a bred heifer/cow loan, and is therefore insured, as I had planned to sell her once she picked up (obviously not an option at this point).

Anyway, hope you get a decent price on her. Maybe you can pick up a good replacement animal.
