First calf heifer and brand new bull calf.

I know. They're holstein. :lol: I took this picture several weeks ago - they aren't mine, but they make a nice pic anyhow. :)

milkmaid, just out of curiosity and not related to this picture in anyway, how many calves do you have to pull on that dairy you work for?

Not many. We did have a set of twins last week coming tail first that had to be pulled, but under normal circumstances they usually do fine on their own. That heifer in the pic is prolly 1300lbs and calved w/out problems. ;-)

While growing up on my Grandfathers dairy farm, we never let a cow or heifer calve alone. Many nights, spent standing watch over them to make sure everything was ok. Of course this was way back yonder, before AI and genetics. Long since been out of dairy cattle, but glad to hear that calving ease has gotten better. :cboy:

He'll be a steer calf soon enough, and hamburger is his future. Boss doesn't retain any bull calves - as bulls. :lol:

If I missed it sorry, but do you AI all of your cows? If so do you sue bull from Accelerated Genetics, ABS and the like?

Boss runs herd bulls. No AI. On my own "herd" (lol), I've done a little bit of both. My next two heifers to be bred will be AI'd.

Milkmaid, I have a little hobby farm and I have found that AI is the next best invention since duct tape for us with small herds.
