I have a cow that everytime she lays down she is groaning and lets out big sighs while shes laying down has anyone else had that before? She is not in labor or anything shes due in about 2 months and soon as she gets up she stops groaning and acts normal. I think while laying down something must be causing her pain. Anyone have suggestions on this?

Seen it before in last trimester on a neighbor's cow. Just couldn't get "comfortable" when laying down--sounded like she was dying and couldn't breathe. She had twins.

Thats what mine sounded like had me worried shes never done that before.

Shoot, that happens to me gettin up and down ALL the time! Seriously, my big cows do that groaning too. If she is acting normal otherwise, I would say she is fine. Just prego!!

The only time I've ever noticed any of mine doing that was when they were pretty far along in their pregnancy. I always figured it was due to the mass of the calf taking up space that's usually not as "full" and therefore not quite as much room for lung expansion while laying down.

I have one big cow who groans even when she's standing. Maybe she's humming. Others often grunt when they're sitting - none are pregnant at present, but the summer feed is quite bulky.
Another grunted with each breath the other night and I concluded she'd swallowed a bee. She was fine the next day.

I wouldn't worry, unless there's obviously pain.

See it all the time, we refer to them as "Mona". Sometimes we'll have a couple of them called Mona

My fat cows do it at the tail end of their pregnancy. Sounds as if they have a severe case of constipation. They lay down flat for a while, then sit back up. Usually they are pretty close to calving.

 Trust me, after three pregnancies I can tell you she IS in pain!

I moaned and groaned in my last trimester, so I sympathize with my heavy bred cows when they do this... It is completely normal! :tiphat:
