Cow Cull'in Cycle

I was taught that ideally you cull heavy at the top of the price cycle and part of the way down, and then increase heifer retention at the bottom and on the way up. Looks like I should have culled more in 2014 and early 2015...

Selling a kill cow for $900 and then buying back a $1650 short bed heifer does not sound great. Do you see classes of cattle that are good trades right now?
 
For some reason, high prices make people here keep cows they shouldn't. I had already planned to cull heavy, and keep heavy, so I did. No regrets.
