Hi all, just joined and already I have a problem!
I have a four year old cow who gave birth about 2 weeks ago. No problems, calf is great and has been nursing.
This morning, cow is acting like she's in labor again. Lying down, getting up, moving a few feet and lying down again. When she started to walk off away from the herd, calf started to follow. She ran him back to the herd. She went about five hundred yards away, into the woods and lay down again. No other visible signs of distress. Not biting her sides or pawing or mooing really loud. I'm stumped. Been helping with beef herd for close to twenty years and I've never seen anything like this. Any ideas?

First thing I would do is glove up and do a rectal to see if you can feel anything in the reprotract. If so I would change gloves and check to make sure that everything is as it should be. I've never seen it but it's possible to have twins a week or so apart.

You really have a hard problem. I am also in doubt, but one thing comes to my mind she is really in trouble. :(
