My six and seven year old grandchildren ventured out on ice yesterday evening after being warned over and over. The little one went through and was over his head but his older brother was able to touch bottom and somehow got them both out. Their father called me this morning to let me know what happened and my mind has whirled all day with what ifs. We are thanking God for miracles.
 
When I read this, I felt the most awful thud in my chest.

Thank God they are ok. Angels on their shoulders, that's for sure. And to think, a seven year old was able to think and react that quickly in that emergency situation, even tho his brain experienced a blip by getting in that situation. But then, how can ya' get mad when relief is washing all over ya'?

Ask 'em if they're gonna go out on the ice again..Tell them just cause the parents on tv are dumb doesn't mean theirs are..Then hug them tight,and tell them they're grounded to inside 'til an adult can go out with them..Thank You God the're all right.
 
I asked them if they learned anything and the little one told me he learned never, never go on ice and always listen to his Daddy; the oldest one stood there for a minute and said "I learned how to swim".

They are very different in size, thank goodness because the oldest one was quite a bit taller and very strong/husky. The little one was trying to coax the oldest out on the ice when he went through. The oldest walked out about 3 ft. before he went through also but he could touch bottom. He got a hold on his little brother but they couldn't get back up on the ice so he used an old BB gun he was carrying to break ice to get out. I can't believe he was so calm and sensible but he did it and they are alive.
