Myself wife and 4 friends coon hunted all night this past Friday and killed 7 coons had a blast . I had one puppy that's a year old that decided coons weren't cool enough to tree and started running a deer. My grown dogs ran to him smelled where the deer was and turned around and ran the other way I guess I broke them really well of chasing trash the puppy I waited till he went about 100 yards and laid him out with my trashbreaker shock system for a good 2 minutes kept hitting him " shocking" on 6 highest level it was knocking him to the ground yelling no and he ran to me tail between his legs and wouldn't hunt the rest of the night. I took him out where deer were behind my house with the color on and tracking collar and walked near where the deer were he went and smelled where the deer were and hauled arse back home into his pen and got in his doghouse and wouldn't come out I think hes cured hopefully.

This is the set up I use on my coon & rabbit dogs my hounds for deer only have tracking collars.

I coon hunted for years.
Never wanted more than 2 dogs preferred one wouldn't hunt with three.
Only hound I was interested in was a Redbone.
Had two for years ole Red set standers out he would run deer about twenty minutes.
Come to the first stander he would turn around and head straight back to me.
Go squirrel hunting he treed squirrels all day, hit the woods at night he was as good a coon dog as they come.
I don't know how he knew if you went squirrel hunting he wouldn't mess with a deer or coon.
He knew what I wanted.
After I had to put old red to sleep at 16 due to cancer lost my love of the hunt.
Had a champion Redbone named Buck and he couldn't hold a candle to ole Red.
Buck was a kick ass coon dog I bought when ole Red turned 12 and was so stove up I retired him from the coons.
After Ole Red died I just lost the love, me and that old hound spent a many a hour in the woods together.

Sounds like you had some good hounds. I try to keep each dog separate for the game they run. I had 5 broke coonhounds out and 1 puppy. I like groups of 3 for coons and want all the dogs to be used to each other incase I mix up the 3 some nights. I have kinda lost the feeling for deer hunting with hounds after my best deer dog ever died while being pregnant and going into labor. I may get rid of all my deer dogs and rabbit dogs this year and only keep coons. My wife said no one need 40 dogs lol shes right.

Never liked hunting with 3 dogs due to injury. Get a coon bayed in the salt grass there would be 2 dogs circling
to the right and one to the left . Hunting the rice fields along the bay best way to loose a hound to drowning was run with
3 or 4 hounds.
Old Black man used to hunt where I did and we got to be friends, he had a pretty good Black and Tan female
that he bred to Ole Red. He had one out of the litter at a year was treeing squirrels and coons.
I tried and tried to buy that dog off him it wouldn't sell him for nothing.

lol I got a rabbit dog now that a local dr here offered me a lot of money for it but I won't sell it if you get a good dog you try to hold onto it. I have blk and tan treeing walkers now before I had blk and tan coonhounds and blueticks. Its hard to beat a blk and tan coonhound.

I went to the Russell's after the hounds .
They are smarter and will hunt anything you want.
Ole Rube and I killed many a coon, good squirrel dogs, good rabbit as well.
I haven't owned one yet that will pay any attention to a deer.
DD would rather run a rabbit than eat and is making a decent squirrel dog.
They are very special little dogs nothing is tougher or has more grit.
They do not respond to negative treatment at all they work off of reward and praise.
As I got older wanted a dog that hunted closer to me.
A lot of the guys are using them for hog dogs call them the swarm of bees.
Russell's will bay the hog and then they turn a catch dog loose.
They are also using a Black terrier that has a long name that is a little bigger, it is from Romania or somewhere like that

that's pretty wild I would like to have a couple for squirrel hunting

You had better really read up on Russell's before getting one.
The are quirky little dogs that don't do well kenneled they are loyal to a fault.
They are not happy unless they are with you. They are the ultimate escape artist.
They require a lot of time and discipline in the first year, super fast learners and they like to test the boundaries. It is almost like having a teenager. You will not break them from killing house cats, chickens etc. If it squeaks has fur or feathers and it comes on there place they will die trying to kill it. Training is by praise whip one and you will ruin the little dog.
The little dog wants to be your companion in all endeavors. They need a job and time everyday from playing ball or going
squirrel hunting.
DD every evening when she comes in and we are through for the day goes and looks in her toy bucket.
She will pull out a rope for tug a war or a ball to play fetch.

WOW... That seems to be a lot of work like a infant again lol I am not ready for all of that I guess I will wait till I am retired to deal with that. I know they are smart my friends mom has one and he can get up on the water cooler hit the lever to let water out and drink the water. The kids want a dog maybe I can get them one.

Sky and Caustic...I love coon hunting! Got rid of all my dogs over the last year or so...too much to keep up with, since my son is older and don't like to go with me anymore...that and the fact I almost drown falling into a deep creek one night by myself...scared me a little. Anyway, I would hunt anything that treed a coon...my best were 2 redtick hounds. The male was absolutely amazing and what a dog...he died about a year ago. My female is now running bear down east NC and from what I hear is making a bang up gyp. I really enjoyed working with the younger dogs and there are many of my dogs hunting coon and bear down east that their owners are very happy with. I guess all my money now goes to the cows LOL!!! Sounds like you had a GREAT hunt SKY!!!

Had to go in one night in a bayou to help ole Red with a big boar coon.
Things got tight for a little while.

Never seen one yet that wasn't a 100 lb dog in a 20 lb body.

Don't discount the dachshund in him. They're mean little farts too. Bred for badgers.

I can't remember if I posted last year about him but I found him under my boat with a gash on his side 6" several puncture wound canines broken and almost dead from a pit bull fight on Christmas day. I was going to put him out of his misery and my wife and daughter begged me to try and save him. I called the only vet on call drove over an hour to get him patched up. 350 bucks later and 50% chance we brought him home. I just knew he would be gone in the morning. When I got up the next day he acted like nothing was wrong. He looked like he// for a while but he got over it.

I have been on hunts and seen dogs go for 5K. that was twenty years ago.
Wasn't me buying, some of those boys took that field trail and dog breeding to another level.
When I quit I gave Ole Buck to my Dad's old hunting partner.
I ask that he not sell him just give him a good home, he went on to win many trails.
