Do you have the high bid on her George? :D Go for it it's only money.

I can't veiw the bidding without registering and I don't want to register for fear I'll hit the wrong button. I hope you keep us posted on how it's going.

Oh, come on! Live dangerously! Register and watch the fun! Watching the bidding in the last few minutes/seconds is entertainment!

No, that's definitely not my bid on 7172! My pick of the heifers is 7056, but she's already getting up out of the range that I'd like to spend on her - with 2 days still to go.

I've got a dinner and Don Henley/Pretenders/StrayCats concert that I HAVE to attend when this auction is ending(related to wife's work), so I expect that will end up saving me from spending more than I should.

Current Prices:

Hey I think I can be some help to you George. Just give me your password and info and I'll do your bidding for you. Then you can just relax and enjoy the concert knowing I'm taking care of things.

Something tells me that I might end up buying all 12 of those heifers if I did that, Ned!

Although I 'd sure trust you more than some on here!

I guess it doesn't say much for me that I'd actually rather watch an Internet cattle sale than attend an extravagant dinner and concert of "has-beens'" with my wife, her coworkers, and vendors.

Ahhh, such is the plight of being a "trophy husband", though!

It shows how little attention I've been paying - the wife just called and said the concert is actually tomorrow (Saturday) night. I'm glad she called or I would have showed up a day late!

But the dinner is scheduled exactly when this auction ends.

I tried to "beg" out of it - but she reminded me of a recent trip where she spent the day in a cheap motel in a remote area(sans air conditioning) while I was out "shopping" - looking at another breeder's herd of Hereford cows!

Sounds like that was a very successful sale. Do ya'll think the internet bidding type auction is the "wave of the future" in cattle sales? Personally I want to see them in person.

I think they are the future. I bought two heifers in Colyer's first Internet Sale in 2002 - which was reported to be the first Internet sale of that kind ever held. More and more breeders are now using the Internet, both in this kind of auction format and with simultaneous live video feeds of their sale on the Internet and TV. Since those first purchases, I have made several more purchases via the medium.

If the breeder provides good pictures and a reasonably good video that's long enough to be able to view the animals from several angles, I actually prefer being able to bid via the Internet versus attending the sale. My high back office chair is much more comfortable than the typical sale bleachers and I can get some really good barbeque in my home town for around $8.

However, I know that several of the successful bidders in this and past Colyer sales have actually made the trip to their ranch before the auction to view the heifers in person. There's always that option available.

George
