CMA

Yeah, it's a shame what's happening. Like the song "Murder on Music Row" that GS and AJ did. Pretty much says it all. Had to give up listening to our local "country" station. Wasn't worth wading through 10 or 12 crap songs just to hear one good one.

Found a little FM station in a small town about 10 miles from here. They play everything you can imagine, except that hip-hop stuff. Country, rock, blues, jazz, classical, you name it. You might hear Vivaldi, then The Who, then Hank Williams, then Stevie Ray Vaughn one right after another. Don't like all of it, but they sure keep you guessing.

I agree! What ever happen to good music, like from Don Williams and John Conlee![/quote

I used to play a lot of Don Williams when I was dating my wife. All those songs have special memories.
George is the real deal. It goes down hill from there. I think folks are trying too hard to do some pop / mass market / cross over / prom stuff. (and I only used the word stuff to get by the censor). 8)

Country is now what used to be POP, closest thing to country now seems to be blue grass. They just need to have a slow song or two.

aw. i like 'country' music. but i didnt grow up with the 'real' stuff either. better then what most kids my age listen to. if you wanna hear some crap look up some hip-hop, rap, R&B, etc.

That's pretty much the same with me.

Although Rascal Flatts is NOT country. I cant believe people really think that is country.

I absolutely love Brooks & Dunn, actually got tickets in the mail to one of their 4 concerts down here in Aus today.
And Brad Paisley's the other one I like, apart from (I'd Like To Check You For) Ticks. That is so stupid that song :P

I love the old stuff to, but I didn't grow up with the old stuff. At first I didn't like the newer stuff, but now I like both, we're going to hear the newer stuff a lot more often so I've learnt to like it.

That's the ultimate Ozark Hillbilly pickup line.

ha. now wait a minute.. some of my relatives came from the Ozarks...

I turned off the CMA's.. not too many of those "acts" that I care to watch. some of what they call country is just not country.

Then you should know about the ticks....................

Remember that one year that they banned George Jones from hte CMA's becasue he got arrested for drunk driving, and Alan Jackson started his song then walked off to make a point?

Well now they are giving Keith Urban a standing ovation for making it thru rehab, and patting him on the back~ very troubling.

I watched some of the show, but I found most of it just too whiney, I like my 70's 80's 90's music ROCK the best, anymore country as it is sounds all the same. I agree with some of you that Rascal Flatts is not country, that lead singer, my gosh he has a whiney voice, yet they are making millions.

I find the country music association being hypochrites, they slammed Billy Ray when he had success with Achy Breaky Heart, because he was different, now they are blackballing Big &Rich from winning awards, because they are individually strange, yet they let them play their music (not sure its country) just because they know they have followers, yet they still have not won one award.

I think they are all pretty clicky, it scares me what they will do to that cutie Taylor Swift, look at Leann Rimes, did she have plastic surgery? We thought she looked wrong, in a strange way.

Just my 2 cents.

What happened to Don Williams? I saw him a couple of times when I was a kid. He was a great act.

  • If I remember correctly he either retired last year or is going to this year.
Mom and Dad went to Fort Worth TX about 2 years ago and they found out that he was playing , I think it was at Billy Bobs. They said they had a great time, he just sat up there and played and people sang and danced. He told the crowd that he hadn’t had that much fun in a while so he played for like another hour and half.
that's right... don's got a great voice. john conlee still out there somewhere. luckly we got a station in addison that plays all the oldies.

Saw him open for Merle Haggard. Just sat on a stool with his guitar and played. Stole the show.
